Best Drive Discs for Each Character in Zenless Zone Zero

Every character in Zenless Zone Zero will need their own best set of Drive Discs to reach their full potential.

There’s a lot going on with progression in Zenless Zone Zero, and the grind for the best Drive Discs for each character is just as miserable as it is for Artifacts and Relics in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, respectively. We’ll go over each current character’s top options here. Good luck with your farming.

The Best Drive Discs for Every Zenless Zone Zero Character

The 16 characters currently available in Zenless Zone Zero have to share 12 Drive Discs, but the best option depends on their role. Attack characters are all about pure DPS, so in most cases, the Drive Disc effects and substats they need are the same. Support characters tend to be the same: they’ll want similar bonuses, though what they need will depend on their kit. Getting a good set for each character will cost a lot of Battery Charge, so let’s get into it.

Best Drive Discs for Attack Characters in Zenless Zone Zero

Attack characters almost always want some way to increase their damage, and how they want to do that depends on how they do damage in the first place. The typical fallback stat you want to increase with Drive Discs is Crit Rate to improve your chances of an increased damage Critical Hit. However, if your character is more about building Anomaly stacks, they’ll want more buildup, and so on.

Best Drive Disc for Ellen Joe

  • 4-piece Polar Metal
  • 2-piece Puffer Electro

Ellen Joe, despite being a fantastic Ice applicator, is otherwise a fairly straightforward DPS unit that relies on enhanced Basic and Dash attacks for optimal damage. That means the bonus Polar Metal provides to both attack types, plust he additional Ice Damage, are perfect for her. Pair the four-piece set with two pieces of Woodpecker for 8% additional Crit Rate and you’ll open up her kit just that little bit more. You will, of course, probably need to spend plenty of Polychrome to get her.

Best Drive Discs for Zhu Yuan

  • 4-piece Chaotic Metal
  • 2-piece Woodpecker Electro

Zhu Yuan’s burst damage potential is astronomical, and while she’s more technical to use than Ellen, you can do some nutty DPS when the enemy is in the Daze state. Until more Drive Discs enter the game, you’ll want to use 4-piece Chaotic Metal for its 20% Crit Damage buff that increases by a modest 5.5% when you inflict the Corruption Anomaly. Woodpecker Electro’s 8% Crit Rate boost is a nice touch as well.

Best Drive Disc for Soldier 11

The Soldier 11 character screen in Zenless Zone Zero

  • 4-piece Inferno Metal
  • 2-Piece Freedom Blues

Almost all of Soldier 11’s damage bonuses come from her Fire Suppression core skill that wreathes her blade in flame, and as such, the more you can buff her Fire Damage, the better off she’ll be. The four-piece set also increases her Crit Rate against a burning enemy by a whopping 28%, though in my experience, building burn with Soldier 11 is a little inefficient. You can add two pieces of Woodpecker Electro for additional Crit Rate to eke out a bit of extra damage.

Best Drive Discs for Nekomata

  • 4-piece Fanged Metal
  • 2-Piece Freedom Blues

As much as it’s tempting to buff Nekomata’s Crit Rate as high as possible with something like Woodpecker Echo, all her attacks deal a solid amount of Physical damage, so Fanged Metal’s two-piece 10% increase to that is nice. The four-piece 35% damage buff to a target after causing the Assault Anomaly is massive, and because Nekomata attacks so many times per string, building Assault isn’t hard. That said, adding the two pieces of Woodpecker Electro for some Crit Rate is not a bad idea either.

Best Drive Disc for Anton

The Anton character screen in Zenless Zone Zero

  • 4-piece Thunder Metal
  • 2-Piece Shockstar Disco

Anton is an even more straightforward DPS than Soldier 11, reliant almost entirely on Electric damage and the Shock Anomaly for his regular output. As such, Thunder Metal is the only choice for him, with the two-piece providing a 10% Electric damage bonus plus a 28% buff to his Attack on any Shocked enemy. There aren’t a ton of Shock units in the game, but they’re coming, so Anton’s value is likely to increase. And like the rest of the Attack units here, the Woodpecker Electro Crit Rate bonus is great for him.

Best Drive Disc for Corin

  • 4-piece Fanged Metal
  • 2-Piece Freedom Blues

As the A-Rank Physical Attack unit in Zenless Zone Zero, you’ll build Corin-like Nekomata: four-piece Fanged Metal and two-piece Woodpecker Electro for more Crit Rate. Corin isn’t as reliant on Dodge Counters and Quick Assists, but buffing her damage remains the key.

Best Drive Disc for Billy Kid: Woodpecker Electro

Billy might be wacky and fun to play, but his damage is sorely lacking, especially in single-target scenarios. As such, adding Woodpecker Electro for Crit Rate and bonus Attack. Two-piece Buffer Electro for the 8% PEN Ratio (Defense ignore) is a good way to round things out.

Best Drive Discs for Anomaly Characters

Playing Anomaly characters is a different kind of DPS in Zenless Zone Zero. You want to not only deal standard damage but also build up elemental effects that eventually deal a large burst of damage. Ideally, your other characters will also have solid Anomaly buildup, so when the two effects stack, they create the Disorder effect for a third source of big damage.

Best Drive Discs for Grace

  • 4-piece Thunder Metal
  • 2-piece Freedom Blues

In an odd twist, the best Drive Disc set for Grace is the standard Thunder Metal set. The reason is simple: her Shock buildup is already nuts, and the massive 28% buff to her Attack against Shocked enemies is too good to pass up. When you pair the two-piece Freedom Blues for 30 additional Anomaly Proficiency, Grace will be Shocking everything in sight. More than she already was, anyway.

Best Drive Discs for Piper

  • 4-piece Fanged Metal
  • 2-Piece Freedom Blues

As much as I want the Anomaly DPS characters to use more Anomaly-focused Drive Discs, the 35% damage bonus to enemies afflicted by Assault (the Physical Anomaly) is just too good to pass up. Freedom Blues adding 30 Anomaly Proficiency makes getting that Assault activation even easier.

Best Drive Discs for Stun Characters in Zenless Zone Zero

Stun characters are a core part of any team in Zenless Zone Zero, though that may change as the game evolves. And thankfully, there are tons of great options to choose from.

Best Drive Discs for Qingyi

  • 4-piece Shockstar Disco
  • 2-piece Swing Jazz

Playing Qingyi is a more technical experience than most other Stun characters, but building her is not. The more Daze she builds up, the better she performs in a team, so Shockstar Disco’s 20% Daze buff is essential. Swing Jazz helps her get her EX Special up faster, which you’ll want to get her effects going.

Best Drive Discs for Koleda

The Koleda character screen in Zenless Zone Zero

  • 4-Piece Shockstar Disco
  • 2-Piece Swing Jazz

Stun characters should focus almost entirely on their role: inflicting Daze whenever and however possible. Koleda is even more of a specialist in that department than Lycaon, as she lacks any debuffing ability and focuses almost entirely on applying Stun (with a side of Burn). As such, Shockstar Disco is her only option. The two-piece provides a 6% increased Impact for more Daze, and the four-piece is a 20% buff to the daze of Basic and Dash Attacks, as well as Dodge counters. Pair the two pieces of Swing Jazz for a bit of Energy Regen to get Koleda’s EX Special up faster.

Best Drive Discs for Lycaon

  • 4-Piece Shockstar Disco
  • 2-Piece Swing Jazz

Surprisingly, as much extra value as Lycaon can add to a team with debuffs and better Ice application, you build him the same way as Koleda and other Stun characters: four-piece Shockstar Disco and two-piece Swing Jazz. You will, of course, want to prioritize Lycaon’s debuffing ability and Ice application, but those choices remain the same for his main Drive Discs.

Best Drive Discs for Anby

The Anby character screen in Zenless Zone Zero

  • 4-Piece Shockstar Disco
  • 2-Piece Swing Jazz

Stun characters aren’t known for their damage output, and that’s especially true for Anby. She’s the only 4-star Stunner, and her damage is sub-par even by her role’s standards. That she can combo additional Shock buildup alongside her Stun role is nice, but building her is this game just like every other Stun unit.

Best Drive Discs for Support Characters in Zenless Zone Zero

Support in ZZZero is a bit different than in other ARPG gachas. Because combat is instanced and quick rather than being prolonged, there are no dedicated healers on the roster. Instead, your supports provide grouping, buffs to your other characters, and debuffs or distractions, depending on the character. Building Supports is thus a slightly more varied affair than damage or Stun.

Best Drive Discs for Soukaku

  • 4-Piece Swing Jazz
  • 2-Piece Puffer Electro

Soukaku is the current Support queen thanks to her ability to transfer up to 1,000 of her own Attack to her teammates and her top-of-her-class Ice and Daze buildup. Her EX Special also pierces opponents for a significant distance, and the projectile has a wide range, which means you want as much Energy Regen on her as you can get through Swing Jazz. Two-piece Puffer Electro gives a modest 10% attack increase that helps her reach her maximum provided buff.

Best Disc Drives for Rina

  • 4-Piece Swing Jazz
  • 2 PIece Freedom Blues

Rina is a neat mix of Anomaly buildup and buffs, plus she’s got minions that add even more spice to her kit. Keeping her EX Special active as often as possible is, like other Supports, incredibly important, hence Swing Jazz. Freedom Blues gives Rina that extra Anomaly Proficiency to help her and her other Electric characters get that Anomaly damage up.

Best Disc Drives for Nicole

  • 4-Piece Swing Jazz
  • 2 PIece Freedom Blues

Though she’s completely free, don’t count out Nicole as a support character. Her ability to group enemies with her EX Special, Ultimate, and Chain Attacks can be really handy, especially in higher-difficulty content. Swing Jazz is up as our four-piece once again, but adding Freedom Blues gives Nicole some extra Ether damage when the Anomaly triggers.

Best Disc Drives for Lucy

The Lucy character screen in Zenless Zone Zero

  • 4-Piece Swing Jazz
  • 2 PIece Hormone Punk

Lucy’s effectiveness depends on her minions and the EX Special that can empower them with the Cheer On! buff. Swing Jazz helps keep that buff active, and Hormone Punk gives a bit of additional Attack to empower the Cheer On! effect even further.

Best Drive Discs for Defense Characters in Zenless Zone Zero

Defense is the loneliest role in ZZZero, occupied solely by Ben Bigger as of 1.0. And when so much of the game revolves around increasing damage over survivability, his usefulness is hamstrung by his focus on shielding and generally mitigating damage. Still, he does have unique synergy with Koleda, making him worth investing in for that uniqueness alone.

Best Drive Discs for Ben Bigger

The Ben character screen in Zenless Zone Zero
Screenshot by GameSkinny
  • 4-Piece Swing Jazz
  • 2-Piece Soul Rock

Ben’s benefits revolve around using his EX Special, so Swing Jazz is a no-brainer here, and the set’s ability to enhance Chain Attacks and Ultimates is too good to pass up. Two-piece Soul Rock ensures that Ben still gets some Defense boost, as his kit requires as much Defense as possible to maximize his shielding output.
