Best Way to Play Silent Hill 2 Before the Remake

Without Silent Hill 2 having digital copies being sold, here's the best way to play it before the remake.

With the Silent Hill 2 remake on the horizon, it’s often fun to play the original version of the game while waiting for the new release. However, the older the original game is, the more difficult it becomes to play it. So, here’s the best way to play Silent Hill 2 before the remake.

Because Silent Hill 2 hasn’t been made available in digital stores, the best way to play it before the remake is with a physical copy of the original game. Unfortunately, these can be difficult to find and expensive if you also need to purchase an old PlayStation 2 or Xbox to play it. As such, your best bet for playing SH2 is the PC version.

The PC version has a benefit that other versions don’t. You can use the Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition fan project to help run the original game with modern computer hardware. That makes it the best legal way to experience SH2 before its remake is released later this year. But it’s not your only legal option if you’re struggling to find a copy of the game.

Silent Hill 2 as Part of the HD Collection

The HD Collection that contains the first three Silent Hill games is an option as well. Originally released on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, tracking it down is easier. However, Konami made the HD Collection after losing a lot of the original code. Which means that they don’t offer the same experience. The plus side is they’re more accessible, so it’s still a good option if you want to play Silent Hill 2 before the remake and can look past the differences that came from the missing code.

And those are the best ways to play Silent Hill 2 before the remake. It’s unfortunate that Konami hasn’t made the early Silent Hill games more easily accessible through digital means. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to still find a way to play them. From here, check out more SH content like all Silent Hill main games, ranked or 10 characters who are truly terrible people.
