There are a number of server types in Conan Exiles, some of which being PvP-oriented. As you might expect, the sorts of equipment and builds you would use vary from PvP to PvE servers. You don’t need to burst other players down in PvE, after all.
Tricks that work in PvP don’t necessarily translate too well in Conan Exiles PvE or PvE Conflict. That’s why you need to be well aware of these differences before venturing out into the Exiled Lands.
Follow our guide below for all the Conan Exiles PvE tips and tricks you need while getting started on your trying adventure.
PvE Rules and Strategies
The main differences between the three types of servers are the following:
- PvE servers allow players to damage NPCs and creatures, but not other players, thralls, or their buildings.
- PvP servers offer a complete player vs. player experience in which they can damage each other as much as they want. However, the building damage is active only at primetime (5-11 p.m.).
- PvE Conflict is a combination of PvE and PvP in which players can damage each other, but only at primetime. The building damage is inactive at all times.
Most players will probably choose the PvP segment of the game, but the PvE experience can be just as satisfying, if not more.
Gather Resources
The survival element is prevalent in PvE. In the beginning, it is important to gather food and resources, such as wood and stone, to build your first shelter. You will be able to improve it as time goes by and turn it into a real private fortress.
Gain Experience
In Conan Exiles you get XP points for exploring the unknown territories, so don’t be afraid to venture out. However, don’t forget about your own safety, and craft at least the simplest ax to protect yourself.
Crafting and killing creatures also grants experience, which unlocks new recipes that you can use to craft even better weapons and gear.
Clans and Religion
Later on, you can create or join other players’ clans. Together you can do a lot more, and this will make both you individually and your clan stronger. It’s your one-way ticket to taking on harder challenges.
Following and making sacrifices for one of the gods in the game is also important. As a result, you will be able to get some unique weapons and armor.
Best PvE Weapons
Steel Trident
- Damage: 32
- Armor Penetration: 8.1%
- Durability: 1260
- Weight: 5.25
Steel Trident is an exceptionally effective weapon in PvE since it has great range, which gives you a massive advantage over any type of enemy.
However, the trident is mostly used against large creatures, where stopping power is more important than precision. In order to craft Steel Trident, you will need the following items:
- 8x Branch
- 30x Steel Bar
- 8x Twine
- Blacksmith’s Bench
Ancient Warhammer
- Damage: 36
- Armor Penetration: 24.3%
- Durability: 1440
- Weight: 6.3
The Warhammer is a bit heavy, but its armor penetration is beyond anything you’ve ever seen. It’s also a bit slow, but you can always switch weapons when you need it and use the hammer at more appropriate times.
For example, when you need to break through armor and smash some bones, all you need to do is to make sure that it connects. If you want to craft this, then you will need:
- 6x Shaped Wood
- 50x Steel Bar
- Blacksmith’s Bench
Ancient Bow
- Damage: 12
- Armor Penetration: 8.1%
- Durability: 800
- Weight: 4.2
Melee weapons are great, but what do you do when you need to take out a target in the distance? That’s when you really need a bow, and there is no better one than the Ancient Bow.
Craft it and use it with razor arrows, and you will understand why bows are so highly regarded in PvE. The crafting recipe is a bit expensive, but you should manage it nonetheless:
- 6x Shaped Wood
- 13x Thick Leather
- 13x Silk
- 5x Steel Bar
- Carpenter’s Bench
Best PvE Builds
Strength Build
- Strength: 35
- Vitality: 25
- Grit: 20
- Encumbrance: 30
- Survival: 10
The central point of this build revolves around the Axe of the Lion — a massive weapon with 53 points of damage that gives high bonus to your strength.
Another item that can add an incredible amount of strength to your build is the Hyperborean Slaver Armor. If you’re going for the strength build, then this is the way to go.
Accuracy Build
- Accuracy: 50
- Vitality: 25
- Grit: 30
- Encumbrance: 15
This build is made for archers. There are a couple of amazing bows in Conan Exiles, so if you like this playstyle, be sure to invest your points into Accuracy. The higher it is, the more damage your bows will deal.
Some of the best bows in the game are Bessie’s Bow and Eye of the Khan. You will also need the Shemite Armor, which gives bonus to your accuracy as well.
Grit Build
- Vitality: 20
- Grit: 50
- Agility: 30
- Encumbrance: 20
This build is highly mobile as it revolves around stamina that allows you to pursue creatures. That is also why you need a spear — an excellent choice for grit build. The best choice of spear is Black Dragon Pike.
The best armor for this type of build is the Vanir Settler set, which gives bonus to your grit.
Best Base-Building Locations
Shattered Springs
If you’re planning on settling in a place that’s as well protected as possible, then there is probably no better place than Shattered Springs, located in the Desert biome.
It is almost entirely surrounded by mountains, which don’t let anyone inside except through a few openings you can use to protect yourself. Another distinct feature of this area is that it constantly produces toxic fumes, which keep NPCs away from this place.
Of course, you can work around it and equip a Sandstorm Mask, which will protect you from the fumes.
Mounds of the Dead
Another great place to settle down is located in the western part of the Tundra biome. It’s a pretty dark and uninviting place, but there’s a lot of woods around, although full of undead.
This place also has several unlockable recipes that can be found around the lake region.
Thugra’s Stand
The Stand is located north of The Summoning Place and east of The Hand of the Maker. It has a pretty high plateau, which can be used for base-building. The fact that your base is located above the ground in a completely inaccessible place makes it a truly great spot.
Conan Exiles PvE Conflict Tips and Tricks
Base Defense Tips
Since PvE Conflict servers allow other players to attack you, there is a great need to properly defend your base. The first thing you need to do is enhance the resistance of your walls with the help of Sandstone Foundation.
Then, you need to make sure that you can survive raids. Build your base in a remote area and fortify it. You also need to leave as few things as possible before logging off. This means that you need to use most of your materials so that raiders are left with nothing to steal.
Lastly, if you still want to keep a few valuable things in safety, then create a hidden stash away from the base, and keep your stuff there.
Combat Tips
If you choose a weapon, whether it’s an axe, a bow, or a sword, be sure to learn it as well as you can. You must know the exact range and damage it produces in various situations.
Never attack first, but let other players come at you. When you’re in a protective position, you have a better understanding of your situation.
Always carry aloe potions, Yog meat, or ambrosia. These will keep you alive. Also, you can carry at least one good shield to protect yourself.
