Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty — Should You Use the ICEbreaker on Songbird in Firestarter?

One of the most important decisions in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is whehter you help Songbird or use the ICEBreaker on her for Reed. Here's what happens.

The Firestarter mission in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the culmination of the story campaign. While it isn’t the final mission, it’s the end result of all the work you, Reed, Alex, and Songbird have been doing. You’ve managed to trick Hansen and are on the verge of saving So Mi. And it looks like you’ll get what you’ve wanted the whole time. However, there’s a catch. Here’s whether you should use the ICEbreaker on Songbird in Firestarter.

Should You Use the ICEbreaker on Songbird in Firestarter in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty?

Though you’re ready to know if you should use the ICEbreaker on Songbird in Firestarter, it’s very important to know one thing. This guide contains significantly massive spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Proceed at your own risk.

What Happens if You Help Songbird and Don’t Use the ICEbreaker?

If you choose Help Songbird when she’s opening up the neural matrix, everything goes south quickly. Alex kills Hansen, but Songbird’s hacking of the station with Blackwall AIs sends the whole place into chaos. You’ll need to help her escape as Hansen’s Barghests flood in. There are five rooms and multiple waves of enemies per room to clear before you can get out through a sewer grate.

After that, some choice words from Reed, and a bit of patience as you wait for Songbird to recover enough to start your escape, you’ll descend on the NCX air and space terminal. The raid is initially a sneaking mission where you’ll use stealth and deception to get around security. However, things once again take a turn for the worse. You’ll need to fight off seemingly endless waves of NCPD.

Provided you survive, you help Songbird onto a tram, leading the both of you to the space shuttle. But there’s one last wrinkle I won’t spoil. After that, you can witness one of the endings to Phantom Liberty.

Choose to side with Reed over Songbird, and she’ll take the betrayal poorly. She’ll tap into the Blackwall again, but this time, it won’t go as well for you. Hansen will kill Alex. Then you’ll need to escape the same way as if you helped Songbird. However, you won’t have her support this time. Additionally, you’ll need to defeat Hansen in a straight-up gunfight to effect your escape.

After you get out, you’ll work with Reed to ambush a MaxTac convoy to “rescue” Songbird. But she gets away again, descending into the bowels of Night City: into a secret Cynosure facility. Following her puts you in direct conflict with a guardian robot powered by a Blackwall AI.

Word of advice? Don’t fight the Blackwall robot. It will one-shot you, takes no damage from any weapon, and can’t be hacked. Like the Alien in Alien: Isolation, stealth is your only option.

In addition to avoiding the robot, you’ll disable the facility’s security systems to make it past a large blast door. Eventually, you’ll unlock enough systems to reach So Mi, who’s in a horrid state. You can make one additional choice at that point. Your decision determines whether you get the new ending or not — but that’s a story for another time.

Short of spoiling absolutely everything about the endgame missions of Phantom LIberty, those are the broad strokes you’ll experience if you do or don’t use the ICEBreaker on Songbird during the Firestarter mission. Helping her is the better thing to do, but if you want to see the new ending, betraying her is the only way.

That answers whether you should use the ICEbreaker on Songbird in Firestarter in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. For more on the game and expansion, check out our guides on how many Attribute Points you can get, how to get the MaxTac Mantis Blades, and more in our guides hub.
