To the delight of new and returning fans alike, Destiny 2 was launched on PC last month, a first for the franchise. Everything seemed business as usual, and as the launch date approached, players began preloading the game onto their hard drives in anticipation. However, many experienced a frustrating glitch before even starting the game up.
As patches and updates to both the Battle.net client and the game itself released, more and more players began experiencing the “stuck on initializing” glitch.
How Does It Happen?
Most players on Blizzard’s forums and Reddit report that they paused the download for whatever reason, and when they attempted to resume it, the download simply didn’t continue, displaying the message “Initializing.” However, some others had it happen to them without even having paused the download. Speculation for now seems to point fingers at Blizzard and the Battle.net client itself, but the company has not released any official fix for it as of yet.
How Do I Fix It?
Unfortunately, at the moment the best fix seems to be removing the Destiny 2 folder from its location, clicking the “update” or “install” button again, and then moving it back.
AgentOJ on the Blizzard Forums breaks it down clearly:
So far this is one of the few confirmed fixes, aside from reinstalling the entire game.
