Destiny 2: How to Beat the Cosmic Equilibrium Planet Encounter Challenge

The planets will do your bidding when you learn to beat the Cosmic Equilibrium encounter challenge in Destiny 2.

Each encounter in the Root of Nightmares Raid has a unique challenge. Some take more coordination than others to pull off. The Cosmic Equilibrium challenge in the Destiny 2 Planets encounter isn’t the most complex, but it’s the most technically demanding of all of them, and the challenge only makes it more so. Find out how to complete it here.

Cosmic Equilibrium Planet Challenge Tips and Strategies

Completing the Cosmic Equilibrium challenge is a more complicated way of doing the encounter regularly. For this Destiny 2 guide, we won’t give a full rundown of the Planets section, only how to complete the challenge.

During the initial alignment phase, rather than simply swapping the Light and Dark planets in a single sequence:

  • Move all of the Light planets that are out of place on the left side to the right.
  • Move all the Dark planets that are o ut of place on the right to the left.

You’ll go through two planetary alignment phases, and because that section of the encounter is on a flat three-minute timer once everything starts, you won’t have any extra chances, and you’ll need to be fast.

Once the middle plate section starts, there’s one additional complication.

  • Instead of pulling your Dark buff from the right side, it will be on the left.
  • Your Light buff will be on the right.

How you negotiate this switch with your team depends on what you feel is most efficient and safe. Choosing whether you should have your planet runners stay on their new side or swap back is your choice.

Once you complete the full rotation, you can do damage as normal. However, if you don’t one-phase the boss, you’ll need to complete the challenge conditions again. Failing at either stretch will require you to start the encounter over again.

The Cosmic Equilibrium challenge is the same on both regular and Master difficulty modes, with the only Master difference being the boss Colossus enemies become Barrier Champions.

Beating the challenge on Master awards a second Adept weapon chest. With the ability to enhance Adept weapons like crafted ones, getting your hands on two possible Adept god rolls is never a bad idea.

With that, you have everything you need to know about completing the Cosmic Equilibrium challenge in the Planets encounter of the Root of Nightmares Raid. We’ve covered other endgame challenges here, including complete guides to the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon and a four-part rundown of the Spire of the Watcher Dungeon.
