If you’ve played any Destiny 2 since the Lightfall expansion released, especially if you’ve been playing PvP, you’ve likely seen players turning invisible, or nearly so. You might also have seen your weapon disappear from the first-person view. This is a known bug ravaging the game right now, and while we know generally what causes it, fixing the issue is a bit of a hassle. Here’s how to fix the invisibility bug.

How to Fix the Invisibility Bug in Destiny 2
Currently, the only way to fix the Destiny 2 invisibility bug is to restart your game. It does not affect your play beyond being annoying visually, and it’s not the fault of the anti-cheat or other outside force. The issue is apparently caused by the newly introduced Commendation system, with some interaction between the new screen and the game’s character models causing said models to vanish.
The issue is especially prevalent if you’ve played even a single Crucible match or any other six-player activity. There seems to be an unclear threshold of Commendations given and sent that, once exceeded, causes the invisibility bug to pop up. Once you have the bug, it will continue worsening, affecting more and more of your experience, until you restart the game.
The bug only seems to affect player models, so if you’re in the middle of a PvE activity and the issue starts, you can safely complete what you’re doing before you restart.
The official Bungie Help Twitter account noted the issue on March 3 but didn’t give a timeline on when the problem would be fixed. As the Commendation system is brand new to Destiny 2 and probably has some weird under-the-hood interactions with other parts of the game, solving this problem will take some time.
Meanwhile, if you run into the invisibility bug in Destiny 2, restart your game. No Destiny 2 expansion or Seasonal update ships without at least a few monkey wrenches in the gears, and Lightfall is no exception.
