Destiny 2: How to Get and Use the Heal Thyself Mod

Looking to get your hands on the Heal Thyself mod in Destiny 2? Here's how.

Heal Thyself is one of many “Charged with Light” armor mods in Destiny 2, granting the ability to heal whenever you defeat an enemy with a grenade, costing a single stack of Charged with Light.

If you build around this ability and the power to have constant grenade uptime, you’ll almost always be healing yourself, even in higher-difficulty content. There aren’t too many ways to acquire Heal Thyself, but we’ll cover how you can and what it does in this guide.

Where to Find Heal Thyself

There’s only one source of Charged with Light mods in Destiny 2, Heal Thyself included: Ada-1 in the Tower Annex. Ada has a rotating selection of four Armor mods that updates at the daily reset. With almost 300 armor mods to comb through, if you don’t get Heal Thyself the one day it’s available, it will be a while before you see it again.

Each armor mod costs 10,000 Glimmer to acquire but once purchased, you have them forever. Check your Mod Collections page (the bottom leftmost folder on the main Collections screen), and navigate to Combat Style to see what you have available.

How to Use Heal Thyself

Using Heal Thyself requires two things.

  • Being Charged with Light.
  • Defeating an enemy with a grenade.

There are many ways to become Charged with Light, but the most common comes from another pair of Armor Mods. They’re Taking Charge (which charges you on an Orb of Power pickup) and Elemental Charge (which charges you on picking up an Elemental Well).

However, you can tell which mods give Charged With Light by their color: if the symbol is green, completing the action named in the mod description will grant you the charge. Paired with other mods like Stacks on Stacks (which doubles the number of charges you get per pickup) or Charged Up/Supercharged (which give you one or three more charges, respectively), Heal Thyself can keep you topped off and fighting almost indefinitely.

One note: Heal Thyself is a Solar-energy Charged with Light mod, which means it will only fit on Solar-element armor. It has no armor-type restrictions, so you can place it on whatever piece will fit it. If you’re dedicated to Destiny, we recommend having one piece of high-stat armor available for all four currently available elements so you can switch between them on the fly. Strand’s addition in Lightfall will change this calculus, of course.

We wish there were more to say about getting Heal Thyself, but your options are minimal. Hopefully, that changes when Lightfall releases. In the meantime, check out our other Destiny 2 content on Season of the Seraph and the game more generally in our D2 guides hub.
