Trace Rifles are one of the most interesting weapons in Destiny 2. Almost every one released is better than the last. The Path of Least Resistance, a Legendary Arc Trace Rifle, is hard to get these days, but a god roll is a fantastic addition to any Arc 3.0 build.
How to Get the Path of Least Resistance Trace Rifle in Destiny 2
The Path of Least Resistance was initially released during Season 19, the Season of the Seraph. Now, with the Witch Queen expansion year over, there’s no longer a guaranteed way to get the weapon. Instead, there are only two vendors in the game that have a possibility of offering it: the Gunsmith, Banshee-44, and Xur, Emissary of the Nine, when he arrives with Exotics on the weekends.
The problem is that Banshee and Xur have a rotating selection of five weapons from previous seasons going all the way back to Season of the Hunt — Season 12. That’s seven seasons of more than half a dozen weapons to choose from, and both vendors only have one or two from a particular season at any one time. Worse, even if Banshee or Xur have the Path of Least Resistance in their inventory, there’s no guarantee it will have the god roll you want.
There’s some small solace in the fact that Banshee-44’s inventory rotates daily, so you have a better shot at the weapon you want than at Xur, who only gets new stock weekly. However, when either vendor does have the Path of Least resistance available, here are the god rolls you should hope for.
Path of Least Resistance PvE God Roll
- Barrel: Chambered Compensator
- Battery: Enhanced Battery
- Trait 1: Stats for All
- Trait 2: Voltshot
The Path of Least Resistance is, first and foremost, a PvE specialist, specifically with Arc builds. Combine Stats-for-All with Voltshot, and you have a weapon that not only spreads the Jolt effect but is a dream to handle and can clear hordes of trash mobs in a bright blue flash. Add in Chambered Compensator and Enhance Battery, and the weapon not only feels great to use, but it can fire that extra bit longer you might need to clean up higher-difficulty enemies.
Path of Least Resistance PvP God Roll
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling
- Battery: Tactical Battery
- Trait 1: Dynamic Sway Reduction
- Trait 2: Tap the Trigger
I can’t say with any sincerity that the Path of Least Resistance should be your go-to in PvP. Trace Rifles simply don’t succeed in the Crucible like they do in other areas of Destiny 2. That said, I have had tons of fun meme-ing with them solo — and especially with a squad. The god roll I’ve put forward tries to make the Path of Least Resistance as much like a top-tier Auto Rifle, though it uses Special Ammo so its ammo economy isn’t nearly as good.
That’s how to get Path of Least Resistance in Destiny 2, as well as the PvE and PvP god rolls you should look out for. For more tips and tricks, as well as god roll articles, check our guides on the Apex Predator, Breakneck, and more in our D2 guides hub.
