Diablo 4 Barbarians are the main melee class, getting up close and personal enemies. With the ability to wield four different weapons at a time, and use them all in battle, Barbarians come with a wide range of skills. From turning into a bladed Whirlwind, to killing someone by jumping on them, there are a variety of choices when it comes to building out a Barbarian. Here are the best builds for the Diablo 4 Barbarian class.

Best Barbarian Builds in Diablo 4

There are a couple different endgame builds that can stand against the hordes of demons in D4. These are both better than average, but not quite the best builds in the game, as those are reserved for Necromancers, Sorcerers, and some Rogues. For those of us who like to get up close and personal with the enemy, these Barbarian builds are the cream of the crop:

  • Whirlwind Barbarian
  • Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian

Diablo 4 Whirlwind Barbarian Build

Whirlwind Barbarian is currently considered the best Barbarian build in Diablo 4. While it’s not quite on the same level as a a Bone Spear Necromancer or Arc Lash Sorcerer, it can still get the job done. You’ll need to pour some time into it to get it perfect, but once you’re there you won’t have to worry about enemies taking you down.

Featuring the Whirlwind Core Skill, your build focuses on Fury Generation, Wrath of the Berserker, and Vulnerability to keep you spinning through enemies. You’ll be swirling through enemies until they’re a bloody pile on the ground, like meat in a blender.

Whirlwind Barbarian Skills

  • Basic: Lunging Strike
  • Core: Whirlwind, Pressure Point
  • Defensive: Rallying Cry, Imposing Presence, Martial Vigor
  • Brawling: War Cry, Booming Voice, Aggressive Resistance
  • Weapon Mastery: Pit Fighter
  • Ultimate: Wrath of the Berserker, Tempered Fury, Invigorating Fury
  • Key Passive: Unconstrained (early game), Unbridled Rage (late game)

Whirlwind Barbarian Legendary Aspects

Some of the best Legendary Aspects for this build revolve around weapon bonuses, increasing Critical Strike, and buffing Whirlwind. As with all Aspects, you want to use the version that is as close to max roll as possible.

  • Aspect of the Dire Whirlwind
  • Edgemaster’s Aspect
  • Accelerating Aspect
  • Aspect of the Echoing Fury
  • Bold Chieftain’s Aspect
  • Aspect of Limitless rage
  • Aspect of Berserk Ripping
  • Relentless Berserker’s Aspect
  • Iron Blood Aspect
  • Aspect of Grasping Whirlwind
  • Dust Devil’s Aspect
  • Wind Striker Aspect

Diablo 4 Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian

Hammer of the Ancients (HotA) Barbarian is generally considered to be on the same level as the Whirlwind Barbarian. From those I’ve spoken with, this seems like the less popular option, but equally viable for endgame success.

The HotA Barbarian build focuses on Fury Generation for the heavy hitting Hammer of the Ancients. Whenever your Fury is high enough, hit’em with the hammer! Then it’s coupled with tanks stats, like buffing health and Fortify. Along with needing less endgame inputs, like specific Legendary Aspects, makes it the most accessible for full game leveling. You only need to focus on the Two-Handed Bludgeoning weapon as well, allowing you to pool resources for a Legendary earlier in the game.

As a stun tank with high damage, HotA Barbarian might be the easiest build to take through solo play. Highly resilient, easy to play, and less likely to die, you won’t feel the need to be supported by others. While this may not apply to high level Act Bosses, or special bosses like The Butcher, you’ll be able to out-tank and out smash just about everything else.

Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian Skills

  • Basic: Bash
  • Core: Hammer of the Ancients, Endless Fury
  • Defensive: Ground Stomp, Outburst, Tough as Nails, Imposing Presence, Martial Vigor
  • Brawling: Leap, Swiftness
  • Weapon Mastery: Pit Fighter, Hamstring, Thick Skin, Defensive Stance, Counteroffensive
  • Ultimate: Call of the Ancients, Concussion, Tempered Fury, Invigorating Fury
  • Key Passive: Unbridled Rage

HotA Barbarian Legendary Aspects

As stated above, there’s no must have Aspect that is needed to make this build work. On the flip side, there are many Aspects that can work with Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian, sometimes giving you too many choices. Here are some Legendary Aspects that work well with this build.

  • Aspect of Limitless Rage
  • Edgemaster’s Aspect
  • Aspect of Ancestral Force
  • Aspect of the Umbral
  • Rapid Aspect
  • Aspect of Retribution
  • Smiting Aspect
  • Iron Blood Aspect
  • Aspect of Might
  • Aspect of Hul-Kathos
  • Exploiter’s Aspect
  • Aspect of Perpetual Stomping

Whirlwind Barbarian and Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian are the top builds for Barbarians in Diablo 4. While they both focus on Fury Generation, Whirlwind consistently attacks while HotA stuns their enemies in preparation for one massive blow. Choose the one that works best for your play style or where you’re at in game.
