The Diablo 4 Portal Invasion events occur during Helltides. You’ll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled while you’re roaming around. These lead to numerous wormholes appearing in an area, which, subsequently, cause dozens of enemies to appear. Our Diablo 4 Portal Invasion guide discusses how to complete this particular event.
How to Complete Portal Invasion Events During Helltide in Diablo 4
The Diablo 4 Portal Invasion events happen randomly in various areas during Helltide. A Helltide, in and of itself, occurs within a particular region, lasting for an hour. The main objective is to defeat as many enemies as possible to collect Aberrant Cinders. The currency is then used to open various treasure chests, including Tortured Gifts of Mystery.
Portal Invasion Mechanics
So, what exactly are Diablo 4 Portal Invasion events and why would you want to complete them? Well, here’s a quick rundown:
- If the event hasn’t started yet, you’ll notice several cultists clustered around a wide space.
- Eliminate all of them to make portals appear. You should see two or more as time goes on. The goal is to destroy all seven portals.
- Each portal spawns several enemy mobs, including elites. As long as a portal remains open, it will continue to cause hostiles to appear.
Because of the above, you’re always guaranteed to see numerous enemies crowding around in an area. Taking them out also causes them to drop Aberrant Cinders. I can’t count the number of times I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a Helltide Portal Invasion event. Each instance allowed me to amass nearly a hundred Aberrant Cinders in just a short span of time.
How to Beat the Portal Invasion Boss
After destroying the seventh and final portal, a Helltide Commander boss will appear. There’s a good chance that you’ll recognize their appearance. For instance, Cruxx is akin to Brol the Tyrant King, so expect some quick lunges and leaps. Zurden, meanwhile, is quite similar to Elias Hatred’s Remnant. As such, you’ll want to avoid dark flame AoE abilities. Likewise, take note that you only have a couple of minutes to defeat the boss that shows up.
Once the boss has been beaten, it’ll drop loot (which can sometimes be a Sacred/Ancestral legendary or unique). This is also on top of other rewards, such as Murmuring Obols and Aberrant Cinders.
And that’s it. That’s everything you need to know about completing Portal Invasion events in Diablo 4. For more tips, walkthroughs, and strategies, our Diablo 4 tips hub has you covered.
