Diablo 4 Whispering Keys allow you to pick up more loot and gear across the world of Sanctuary. As you scrounge around in its darkest depths for treasure, most gear pieces and gems come from regular enemy drops or chests that easily open. However, you’ll find you can’t open some. Here’s how to get Whispering Keys in Diablo 4.
Where to Find Whispering Keys in Diablo 4
To get Diablo 4 Whispering Keys, all you need to do is find a Purveyor of Curiosities. These merchant NPCs have a moneybag icon, and there’s one that can be found in the city of Kyovashad.
The Purveyor of Curiosities primarily sells gear pieces for your chosen character. These items cost Murmuring Obols, a currency obtained whenever you complete events (e.g.: one successful completion nets you 35 Murmuring Obols).
However, since these gear pieces are totally randomized, including their rarities and stats, the mechanic is more akin to Kadala and her Blood Shards from Diablo 3.

How to Purchase Diablo 4 Whispering Keys
As for Whispering Keys, they can also be purchased from the Purveyor of Curiosities by checking the bottom of the vendor’s list. Each Whispering Key costs 20 Murmuring Obols, and you can buy as many of them as you want as long as you have the required currency.
Diablo 4 Whispering Keys are important to carry with you. They’re the only items that can open Silent Chests. Unlike regular chests, Silent Chests are locked by default. In my time with D4, Silent Chest spawn locations seemed to be random. Moreover, although you still get rewards, RNG still plays a part. That means you might obtain something you don’t need from them. Just pray to the RNG gods before you open one.
Still, if you’ve amassed enough Murmuring Obols and have no plans of gambling them away on a merchant, you could just purchase Whispering Keys so you have at least one whenever you spot a Silent Chest.
