Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth–Hacker’s Memory Guide: How to Get Tactician USB

Can't figure out how to nab the coveted EXP gain item? We've got you covered with some item farming tips and tricks!
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

As with other Digimon games, or any RPG for that matter, it can be a bit of a grind to level up your party in Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth–Hacker’s Memory. Fortunately, there’s an item to help with that: the Tactician USB. Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a hassle to get it. But we’ve put together this handy little guide to help make the process easier for you.

What is the Tactician USB?

The Tactician USB in Digimon CS–HM is a hold item you can give your Digimon, and it multiplies the amount of experience received at the end of battle. Depending on which Digimon you use, the effects can be multiplied up to seven times, as is the case with the PlatinumSukamon trick (set three PlatSukamon as your fighters, equip all three with Tactician USB, and voila). It significantly reduces the need to grind levels and, thus, makes it a lot easier to enjoy the game itself.

How to Find Tactician USB

If you played the original Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth game — and didn’t wipe the data from your system — then you automatically get one Tactician USB upon starting Hacker’s Memory and uploading your CS data.

The other way involves some item farming — literally. Once you’ve got your farms set up, obtain at least five Developer Know-Hows. The more the better as far as increasing your chances, but the maximum five-per-farm is the recommended number. Then, you’ll need at least one Builder-class Digimon. If you don’t have any Builders, there are patches you can obtain to change classes.

To aim for the Tactician USB, select Command, and then Develop. You’ll choose the 1,000 yen option next. The 10,000 yen option is for the Billionaire USB, which nets you more money — not experience. After that is where the RNG kicks in. But there’s a way around it.

Save your game before the item generates. If you don’t get the Tactician USB, reload the game and try again. It can take some time before finally getting one, but you’ll get there eventually.

Have you been lucky with your farms, or are you still trying to get around the tedium of the RNG? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out our Digimon training guide too!
