Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory Personality & ABI Guide

A short guide to Digimon personalities, and the effects of the ABI stat.
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Your Digimons’ personality types aren’t just for show in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory. Whether you’re still pushing through the story or are grinding up for the arena, knowing what their personalities do is a prime component of making the most of your Digimon and farm.

There are a total of 8 personalities your Digimon can have, but you’re not tied to a particular one per Digimon. You can change one’s personality via Patch items at any time, and you’ll find it’s more than worth it.

There’s more to this than you might think. Your Digimons’ personalities do matter, but they affect things differently from what you might expect. And if you’re looking to make the most out of this system, you need to know about ABI, how it affects growth, and how you can raise it. We’ll go over both these topics in this guide!

Why do personalities matter?

You may just think they affect stat gains when they level, but that is actually not the case. They have a big impact on the effectiveness of your farms, and you will be switching leaders based on what you need.

Here are two instances where personality matters:

  • When training in the farm, the leader’s personality affects the stat growths of all the Digimon on the farm
  • The leader’s personality also affect how long it takes to make items and investigate at the farm

This system is pretty much identical to that in the first Digimon Cyber Sleuth. Your Digimons’ individual personalities do not affect their stat gains when leveling in a party.

Personality effects

It’s good to know that personalities do matter, but what exactly do they do? The first six are straightforward, but two do need a little explanation.

  • Defender – Increases DEF
  • Fighter – Increases ATK
  • Brainy – Increases INT
  • Durable – Increases HP
  • Nimble – Increases SPD
  • Lively – Increases SP
  • Builder – Reduces item development time
  • Searcher – Reduces investigation time

With all of the above in mind, it’s not hard to see why personality types are important. Especially if you’re working certain Digimon up to a particular Digivolution.

Something else to note is that, when training with a Builder or Searcher as the leader, your Digimons’ stats will rise equally instead of all being pumped into a particular stat.

A special note about ABI

ABI is a bit of a mysterious stat. You need it for certain Digivolutions, but it has another use. The ABI stat also affects the maximum extra stat points you can gain when training.

At 0 ABI, a single Digimon can have up to 50 total additional stat points. These can be in a single stat or spread across several, it depends on how you train them.

The maximum ABI a Digimon can have in Hacker’s Memory is 200, which equates to an additional 150 stat points. That’s a significant stat bump!

Getting ABI

There are not a ton of ways to improve ABI, but there are some that are tried and true:

  • De-Digivolving
  • Leveling a De-Digivolved Digimon
  • Leveling a Digimon past its current tier’s highest level evolution requirement

Getting ABI up may just be the biggest grind in the game. That sounds like a drag, but it’s a necessary task if you are looking to compete in the arena.. or you want the best Digimon in your lineup.

You definitely don’t have to delve deep into the ABI grind, but you do have to do it just enough to get certain Digivolutions.

That’s about it for the personality system and how to get your ABI up in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory. If you found this guide helpful, check out our other Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory guides.
