Dragon’s Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart Location, Explained

Here's my Dragon's Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart location guide and how to complete this quest.

The Phantom Oxcart is one of the time-sensitive quests you can fail if you don’t find and follow the oxcart. I’m here to show you its location and guide you through the quest which starts at Vernworth. Here’s the Dragon’s Dogma 2 phantom oxcart location explained.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Phantom Oxcart Guide

I started this quest by hearing NPCs at Bakbatthal and the western ox cart station in Vernworth talking about a phantom oxcart travelling during the night. From here, you need to do the following:

  • After hearing these rumors, I waited for night time at my home in Vernworth (Inns, Taverns, and Benches work fine as well).
  • Then, go to the location marked on the picture above which is right in front of Vernworth’s north entrance across the bridge.
  • You’ll see an ox cart during the short cutscene adorned with blue lights transporting pawns and a Vermund soldier handing them off Mansenn.
  • Wait a few seconds for the cart to drive off so the driver doesn’t see you (this is important for later) or approach from the back and then quickly sprint and use Grab on the soldier Mansenn who sold the pawns.
  • You’ll interrogate him and learn that he’s been selling pawns to a Batthal merchant and you’ll get a choice to let him go or turn him in. Either way, he’ll give you the Merchant’s Document to progress the quest so I found the decision a minor one and up to you.
  • Then, go talk to Captain Brant in The Stardrop Inn and show him the Merchant’s Document.
  • He’ll offer you two choices in finishing the quest where you can either follow the cart at night or disguise as a pawn and be captured.

Let’s analyze both decisions and complete the quest.

How to Complete Phantom Oxcart in Dragon’s Dogma 2

After talking to Captain Brant with the Merchant’s Document he’ll give you two choices to complete the quest:

  • Disguising as a Pawn: I highly recommend this option over following the cart since its easier. Simply unequip all your gear including rings to disguise as a pawn and go to the previous phantom oxcart location north of Vernworth. Before approaching the cart from the back, order your pawns to wait. Then walk to the cart from behind naked and the driver will order you to board it.
  • Following the Phantom Oxcart: You can also follow it by ordering your pawns to wait, then approaching the cart from behind, waiting for it to start moving and trailing it. You need to be strictly behind it as the driver will see you and stop if you’re on either side or in front of the cart. I don’t recommend this method since it’s much harder and you can easily fail if you approach too close or if you stray to far causing the cart to disappear.

Since I chose and recommend the disguise method, I’ll guide you through this decision. You’ll drive off on the cart and encounter some goblins. Defeat them with your fists without equipping any gear piece. Additionally, at one point guards will appear and beat you along with the other pawns and you cannot hit back or the quest will fail. Lastly, you’ll reach Batthal and the Flamebearer Palace where guards will recognize and attack you. Now you can equip your gear and defeat them earning the Labor Requisition Orders. Bring this back to Captain Brant to finish the quest.
