Dredge: How to Dredge for Treasure and Salvage

Not only can you fish in Dredge, but you can also salvage treasure and salvage from wrecked ships you come across. Indeed, dredging spots are filled with valuable items, such as upgrade materials or Research Parts. To do so, you’ll need the Dredge Crane. Dredging for salvage is the only way to complete some Pursuits, obtain upgrade materials and Relics. This guide covers all of the steps below. 

How to Get the Dredge Crane

To start dredging, you’ll need to have the Dredge Crane on your ship, which is given when helping the Collecter during the Collector Pursuit. He’ll add the crane to your ship so you can salvage the various Relics he tasks you with finding. 

Dredging for Salvage and Treasure Explained

Dredging is very similar to fishing in that you’ll first need to find an area of Disturbed Water. When you do, a symbol will pop up showing the Dredge Crane, and you can often tell what type of Salvage the spot will yield by floating debris. If not, you’ll be able to tell from the item’s outline.

There are multiple types of salvage and treasure that can be found at dredge spots.

• Wood
• Metal Scrap
• Trinkets
• Refined Metal
• Relics
• Research Parts
• Cloth

Once you find a location you want to salvage from, select the interact button to start the dredging mini-game.

The goal here is to not have the cursor hit the black areas. Hitting the interact button makes the cursor move from one line to the other. The rarer the item, like Relics, the faster the dial will spin and the more black spots it will have.

Once you get the item up to the surface, you’ll need to fit it into your cargo. Trinkets can take up multiple squares — or just one — depending on what it is. Cloth takes up two squares, wood three, and Research Parts one square. Refined Metal takes up three squares in the shape of an L, while Metal Scrap takes up four spaces in a square shape.
