Elden Ring: Where to Find All Starlight Shards

Starlight Shards are a valuble but limited resource in Elden Ring. Here's how to find all of them.

Starlight Shards are among the rarest consumables in Elden Ring, rivaled only by Larval Tears, Celestial Dew, and a few others. Their scarcity is probably a good thing. Using one gives you several minutes of constant FP regeneration, allowing you to cast spells and use Ashes of War far more often than otherwise intended.

Such a mechanic can get you out of a tight spot or give you an unexpected advantage in PvP, but you’ll need to choose when you use Starlight Shards carefully, as once you collect all of them, you’ll have to start a new playthrough to get any more. Here are the locations of every Starlight Shard in the Lands Between.

How to Get Starlight Shards in Elden Ring and Their Locations

There are only 23 Starlight Shards available in all of Elden Ring, though if you go into New Game Plus, everything resets, and you can continue collecting them. There are a maximum of two per main zone, with none in any of the underground areas or the Consecrated Snowfield/Haligtree levels. There are also no Shards in Crumbling Faram Azula due to that area’s small size.

We’ll list each Starlight Shard by its location, in the order you’re likely to find them. Note that almost all Starlight Shards you find in the overworld will be next to half-moon altars. The only ones that break this rule are those you find at the Moonlight Altar reachable through Ranni’s questline.

Limgrave Starlight Shard 1

You’ll find the first Starlight Shard in the southern part of Limgrave. It’s atop a cliff near the ruins east of the South Agheel Lake Site of Grace and the Forlorn Hound’s Evergaol. As with almost all the Shards listed here, it’s near a cliffside.

Limgrave Starlight Shard 2

The second collectible on this list is in the Stormhill area in the north of Limgrave. Starting from the Stormhill Shack Site of Grace, head west until you reach the cliffs, then turn south. There is a small jutting cliff on the southwesternmost edge, where you’ll find the Shard.

Weeping Penninsula Starlight Shard

The single Starlight Shard in the Weeping Peninsula is on the eastern hill near the Rise. The easiest way to get there is to grab the Castle Morne Rampart Site of Grace about midway to the castle itself, then turn around and go north up the path to the hill. Once atop the hill, turn around and head southeast toward the eastern cliffs. You should see the half-moon altar from a long way away.

Liurnia of the Lakes Starlight Shard

You’ll need to grab the Academy Glintstone Key for the easiest path to the Liurnia Starlight Shard. Use it to access the Academy Main Gate Site of Grace, then take the portal north across the broken bridge. Once you’re on the northeastern part of the area, turn south and head along the side hill past the Divine Tower. Pick up the Artist’s Shack Site of Grace as you travel.

The Starlight Shard is on the western cliffs across from the small forest directly south of the Carian Study Hall.

Caelid Starlight Shard 1

No Elden Ring playthrough would be the same without a trip to the hellhole that is Caelid, and there are two Starlight Shards to collect here.

The first is on the southwestern cliffs, almost directly south of where you enter the zone from Limgrave. Use the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace as a marker and go straight west from there. You should see the half-moon altar from afar.

Caelid Starlight Shard 2

The Second item is a short distance from the Church of the Plague you reach as part of Millicent’s questline. You can either head south from Greydoll’s Dragonbarrow or north from Sellia, Town of Sorcery. If you choose the latter, you’ll need to not only break the seal on the Town’s northern exit but also dodge giant steel balls.

Dragonbarrow Starlight Shard Location

The sole Starlight Shard in Greydoll’s Dragonbarrow is not far to the southeast of the Bestial Sanctum where Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman, lives. Teleport to the Sanctum Site of Grace and head southeast to the cliffs. You should see the altar from quite some distance away.

Altus Plateau Starlight Shard Location

The only fragment in Altus Plateau is at its northernmost point behind the Shaded Castle. From the Grand Lift of Rold or the Erdtree Gazing Hill Sites of Grace, take the lower path north until you reach the castle. Don’t go into the castle grounds. Instead, head around the west side of the walls and circle around to the castle’s back. The altar is hard to miss along the northern cliffs.

Mt. Gelmir Starlight Shards Location 1

On your way to Volcano Manor, you’ll come across the first Shard on Mt. Gelmir. Once you reach the Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace with the Spiritspring and ladder nearby. Take either to the Fully-grown Fallingstar Beast’s arena. The altar is on the arena’s western edge, so either avoid the boss or defeat it for access.

Mt. Gelmir Starlight Shard Location 2

To reach the second fragment on Mt. Gelmir, you’ll need to reach the Seethewater River via the Altus Plateau. Head northwest from the Wyndham Ruins and take the river all the way around, past the Magma Wyrm you’ll defeat as part of Alexander’s questline, to Primal Sorcerer Azur. The Starlight Shard is southeast of the sorcerer on the cliffs outside the Demi-human Queen arena.

Mountaintops of the Giants Starlight Shard Location 1

The first of the two Starlight Shards in the Mountaintops of the Giants is in the far northwest of the zone. The easiest way to find it is to head directly north to the Castle Sol Main Gate Site of Grace, then head almost directly west from there. Follow the western cliffs until you enter the Death Rite Bird world boss area, and the altar should be overlooking the cliffside. Either defeat the boss or reload the area to safely acquire the Shard.

Mountaintops of the Giants Starlight Shard Location 2

The second item is on the eastern cliffs of the Mountaintops, specifically the giants’ graveyard section. The best path is to grab the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace, then head northeast to the cliffs at the edge of the area. The altar is guarded by giant hand enemies but is easy enough to spot.

The remaining 11 Starlight Shards come directly from questlines or quest areas. If you follow Ranni’s quest, you’ll eventually make your way to the Cathedral of Manus Celes on the Moonlight Altar. There are 10 Starlight Shards scattered around the ruined church.

The final Starlight Shard is part of Sorceress Sellen’s quest, which she’ll give you when you give her the location of Primeval Sorcerer Lusat (it’s in a hidden Catacomb called Sellia Hideaway in Caelid).

And with that, you have the location of all the Starlight Shards in Elden Ring. As there are only 23 available, use them wisely until you plan to go deep into New Game Plus cycles.
