Learn about the ideal companion perks to get in Everspace 2.

The Best Companion Perks in Everspace 2

When discussing the best companion perks in Everspace 2, it’s important to note that unlocking traits and abilities in each category needs to be done in order, and these often require certain materials and resources. As such, even if a companion has a useful passive in the moment, someone else might provide a key benefit later on, requiring the materials you might have spent.

Likewise, it bears mentioning that your companions mostly stay in a base. They won’t necessarily show up during battles outside of a few instances. Given that, you’re mostly looking at the passive boons they provide and not much else.

We suggest focusing on the following companions first:

  • Hive: Autonomous Cargo Dispatcher and Mining Tracker.
  • Elek: Fire Support.
  • Khala: Spatial Bypass and Location Scanner.
  • You can upgrade the other Everspace 2 companion perks whenever you have the materials to spare or when the need arises.

Dax and Ben Companion Perks

Repairs

  • Pay for only 70% of hull repairs.
  • Pay for only 70% of equipment repairs.
  • When below 30% of your max hull HP, docking automatically repairs the hull for free.

Tractor Beam

  • Increases the base Tractor Beam range to 800m.
  • Pull multiple objects at once.
  • Increases the pulling speed.

Cruise Drive

  • Reduces the Cruise Drive activation delay down to 1.5/1.2/0.9 seconds.

Dax and Ben share the same types of perks. We suggest going for these a bit later in the game, as they mostly offer utility effects.

Nanotechnology

  • Doubles the repair speed of Nanobots.
  • Nanotech repairs nearby allies.
  • Nanotech repairs armor for half the amount.

Energy Orbs

  • Destroying ships will sometimes release energy orbs that replenish weapon and boost energy.
  • Energy orbs will replenish some ship armor.
  • Energy orbs will replenish some shield energy.
  • Destroying ships, especially elites, will sometimes release a rare orb that grants more weapon and boost energy, as well as a +20% increase to handling for 10 seconds.
  • Energy orbs will move toward you.
  • Rare orbs will charge your ship’s ultimate/ult.

Delia’s energy orb upgrade tiers are useful since you’ll battle countless ships throughout the course of your adventure. The downside is that the effects are somewhat negligible when compared to what other companions provide.

Hive Companion Perks

Autonomous Cargo Dispatcher

  • While in space, send excess cargo to your home base.

Mining Tracker

  • Reveals potential mining yields for each location on the star map.

Startup Delays

  • Reduces the startup delay after equipping a secondary weapon or consumable to 20 seconds.
  • Removes startup delays when not in combat.
  • Reduces the startup delay after equipping a secondary weapon or consumable to 15 seconds.

Hive probably has the single best companion perk in Everspace 2. The Autonomous Cargo Dispatcher ensures that any loot you obtain will be sent to your base, which is amazing given the fact that you’ll run out of inventory space often.

Elek Companion Perks

Fire Support

  • Elek will jump in and help Adam shoot down enemies (if he’s in the mood).
  • Upgrade Elek’s weapons to powerful Equalizers.
  • Elek will also attack with EMP Missiles.

Some companions will appear as wingmen in a few missions. Most of the time, though, Adam will be out on his own. But once Elek is part of your crew, there’s a chance that he’ll help you during dogfights.

Tareen Companion Perks

Storage Size

  • Home base storage size increased to 60/75/100.

Hangar Size

  • Expand the hangar to hold 7/9 ships.

Ship Dealers

  • Increase the number of ships offered at Ship Dealers.
  • Marie de Windt will be convinced to have some ships offered for sale at the flying Dutchess.
  • Get an alternative set of passives for each ship.
  • Increase the selection of ships at the Flying Dutchess.
  • The whole range of offered ships can be refreshed once every 10 minutes.
  • Kato will be convinced to offer top-tier ships for sale at Kato Palace.

Tareen mostly helps you with storage and ship availability. You can upgrade some of these as necessary, though you probably won’t go overboard if you can manage your wares well enough. Ships, though, are a different matter, especially if you’re on the lookout for powerful vessels to buy.

Khala Companion Perks

Spatial Bypass

  • Allows you to build Spatial Bypasses so you can quickly travel between systems.

Location Scanner

  • Reveals the completion ratio of a location on the star map.
  • Reveals how many and what type of secrets are still left to be discovered for each location.

Khala has some of the best companion perks in Everspace 2, primarily because they’re integral to exploration. Spatial Bypasses, once built, lets you use an actual fast travel system, saving you a lot of time. Location Scanners, meanwhile, give you the information you need to obtain all collectibles and secrets in a sector.
