Let Your Staff Handle Most Things Initially

One of the biggest selling points of Football Manager 24 is the ability to manage virtually everything about a football squad, be it team selection, tactics, budgets, transfers, training, and scouting, among other things. While it’s great to have complete control over everything, a lot of it might be overwhelming to a new player who isn’t as familiar with all of these mechanics. So for now, it’s best to leave some things to your staff.

To delegate certain responsibilities to your staff, do the following:

• Go to Staff.
• In the top part of the screen, select Responsibilities.

Once you’ve done this, delegate any responsibilities that you’re not comfortable with managing to the staff member best suited for these duties. But don’t delegate everything! Taking responsibility for certain aspects of management is key to your enjoyment and not messing up your team. For instance, you don’t want your General Manager agreeing to sell your star youth academy product to a rival club for peanuts. I suggest that you’re at least in control of transfers.

Learn the Attribute System

Unlike games like EA FC 24, Football Manager 2024 doesn’t use a static number to describe how good an individual player is. I found this pretty confusing when first starting my journey with Football Manager, and you may too.

Instead, the game uses a system where every individual attribute has a rating from 1-20. A star rating approximates how good that player is relative to the ability of the rest of your squad.

Because the star rating is only relative to your squad, it can be very misleading when scouting players. As a general rule of thumb, I think it’s best to evaluate players based on their individual attributes as they pertain to the role that you want them to play on your team.

For instance, if you’re looking for a fullback, you must evaluate attributes such as their tackling, pace, crossing, marking, and whatever other attributes are highlighted when that role is selected. Sure, a player might have a three-star rating, according to your staff. But if this player is severely lacking in several key attributes, then they might not be a good fit for your team.

If I have one tip for beginners it’s this: become acclimated with Football Manager 24‘s attribute system to avoid any issues when bringing in players or giving them playing time.

Use a Big Club for Your First Save

One of the most attractive save ideas when playing Football Manager 24 is to take over a team in a lower division and progressively guide them to footballing glory. After all, who wouldn’t want to take over former giants like Germany’s Kaiserslautern or Spain’s Deportiva La Coruna and lead them back to the first division? I know I would!

However, if you’re new to Football Manager, it’s best to take over a team that already has a great infrastructure and won’t need as much micromanagement to become better acquainted with Football Manager‘s intricate systems and mechanics.

Below are some great teams that are tailor-made for beginners to the game:

• Paris Saint-Germain
• Manchester City
• Bayern Munich
• Real Madrid
• Barcelona
• Liverpool
• AC Milan
• Borussia Dortmund

All of these clubs have great players, great facilities, an amazing scouting network, and massive amounts of money to spend on transfers, making them a perfect way to become better accustomed to the game and how it works. Once you’ve started accumulating knowledge about the game, you can then start working on your dream save.
