As you make your way through Genshin Impact, you’ll likely begin to figure out which ascension materials you’ll want to keep an eye on for your particular character or weapon. One material you might be on the lookout for is a Fragile Bone Shard, which is dropped by Geovishap Hatchlings.
However, Geovishap Hatchlings are hard-to-find creatures that you might not come across, especially if you don’t explore thoroughly. Luckily, we’ve got the details for a couple of Hatchling locations so you can spend less time looking.
Here’s where to find Geovishap Hatchlings in Genshin Impact.
Where to Find Geovishap Hatchlings
There are two main areas where we’ve come across Geovishap Hatchlings in Genshin Impact.
Tianqiu Valley
The first place you can find Geovishap Hatchlings is in Tianqiu Valley (circled above), where we very much recommend searching.
This area is found on the western side of the map, south of Minlin and north of Dunyu Ruins. Here, you’ll find Geovishap Hatchlings frequently and unlike the Guyun Stone Forest (below), this spot is easy to get to and locate.
Try looking in the southern portion of this area to find them, toward Dunyu Ruins. If you’re lucky, you’ll come across low-level Geovishap Hatchlings.
Guyun Stone Forest
You can also find Geovishap Hatchlings in Guyun Stone Forest, which is located on the southeastern side of the map (circled in the image above). Guyun Stone Forest is actually an archipelago east of Liyue Harbor and south of the Yaoguang Shoal.
For the purposes of this guide, we don’t recommend visiting Guyun Stone Forest if you have a low-level character, as it’s well out of the way and is hard to get to.
Other players have reported being able to find Geovishap Hatchlings in between Mt. Abzang and Qingce Village, but we didn’t have any luck finding any while there.
What Do Geovishap Hatchlings Look Like?
Geovishap Hatchlings are medium-sized lizard hybrids with a thick, brown shell and a yellow underbelly. They’re easily spotted as they roll around on the ground and typically come in groups.
They might seem cute, but they’re deadly creatures, so make sure you come prepared for a fight when facing off against them.
Benefits of Defeating Geovishap Hatchlings
The main reason to farm Geovishap Hatchlings is to acquire Fragile Bone Shards. These are upgrade materials used for ascending Prototype weapons that seem to drop every time you defeat a Geovishap Hatchling (we killed around seven of them and each one dropped a Fragile Bone Shard).
Tips For Defeating Geovishap Hatchlings
Depending on the level of the Geovishap Hatchlings you’re facing, you’ll likely have some trouble defeating them if your character has low-level gear. If you come across high-level Geovishap Hatchlings that are at least 10 levels higher than your character, you might as well keep searching elsewhere.
Use wind attacks to defeat Geovishap Hatchlings quickly
Assuming you’re around the same level as the Geovishap Hatchlings and have decent gear, we found the best way to take them out is to use Wind attacks to flip them on their backs. Doing so makes them susceptible to higher damage, so you’re free to bash away with a melee weapon.
Watch out for their burrow attack
You’ll want to watch out for their signature burrow attack in which they dig underground and then pop back up wherever your character is. This is telegraphed by a large red circle that appears on the ground beneath you. If you see this, roll away immediately.
Aside from that, just try to get some shots in whenever you can and try to focus on one Geovishap Hatchling at a time.
With that in mind, you should now be well prepared to take on Geovishap Hatchlings and acquire Fragile Bone Shards in Genshin Impact. They’re a bit out of the way from the starting area, but once you start exploring, these enemies much easier to find.
