Last Epoch has a basic class system where you’ll pick from five classes during character creation. However, the interesting stuff comes later in the game when you get to choose your mastery. Find out how character masteries work in LE here.
What are Character Masteries in Last Epoch?
Character Masteries offer further customization and skill tree choices for your character’s class in Last Epoch. Each class has three unique masteries that strengthen aspects of their base abilities. These abilities come with useful skills that make end-game content much more interesting. For instance, the Primalist has the selection of Shaman, Beastmaster, and Druid. The Shaman strengthens spells, the Beastmaster focuses on companion summons, and the Druid allows you to transform into three unique beasts. So, each Mastery is unique from each other.
You can only choose one Mastery. However, you can spec into other Masteries in your class. Notably, you can’t complete another Mastery’s skill tree. While this lets you enjoy some aspects of other masteries, you can’t unlock any unique abilities, such as the Druid’s transformations.
When Do You Pick Your Mastery in Last Epoch?
You pick your base class at the beginning of the game, but Mastery selection doesn’t come until you reach the End of Time quest. I reached this in around two hours into the game, so it’s just enough time to get familiar with your class.
Can You Change Your Mastery in Last Epoch?
Much like class selection, your choice of Mastery is permanent and locked for your character. So, unfortunately, there’s no changing your mind after you pick one. However, you can leave the End of Time to experiment with your character some more before locking in your Mastery.
