How to Defeat Polyphemus and Find Wool in Hades 2

Wool is a boss material in Hades 2 and you get it by defeating Polyphemus, the Cyclops son of Poseidon, who’s found in the City of Ephyra. Ephyra is the first level of the surface route to Olympus and to reach it you’ll need these two incantations:

  • Permeation of Witching-Wards: Unlocks the surface route for 1 Cinder, 3 Moly, and 1 Shadow (30 Ash, 30 Psyche, 3 Fate Fabric).
  • Unraveling a Fateful Bond: Removes health drain on the surface for 2 Lotus, 2 Moss, 2 Nightshade, and 2 Thalamus.

Once you have all these and have progressed through 2 encounters in Ephyra, you’ll reach several encounter entrances to different rooms in the city square by the fountain. To reach Polyphemus, complete six of these encounters and destroy the spectral prisons in each one. This unlocks the path to the Polyphemus boss fight from the city square.

Polyphemus is quite an easy boss once you learn his core mechanic of keeping sheep away from him and learn to deal with the crowd of mobs he summons. Here are the essential tips for defeating his two phases:

  • Phase One: The only attacks you really have to watch out for are the shockwave jump and punch. Track his movements when he’s about to jump or punch, back away slightly and wait for him to land, then dash right into him to avoid the shockwave and output some damage. In between jumps and punches just button-mash him. Both melee and ranged abilities work wonders here.
  • Phase Two: Polyphemus’ attack pattern remains the same here but he’ll spawn low-damage shockwaves as he walks so back away between attacks. The core mechanic of the second phase is the sheep and the summoned zombies. I highly recommend you keep hitting the sheep away from Polyphemus since if it gets close to him he’ll eat it and regain HP. The sheep don’t take damage, so just wack it away a few times, then keep fighting the Cyclops and repeat once it gets close. As for Zombies, try to create distance and use Casts to snare them and AOE abilities to damage both them and Polyphemus. In terms of best weapons, I really like the Moonstone Axe or the Witch’s Staff as well as Total Eclipse or Lunar Ray Selene Hexes here for this exact AOE damage reason.

In short, the best strategy I found is to alternate between knocking the sheep away from the boss and damaging Polyphemus and the Zombies with Total Eclipse/Lunar Ray Hexes and AOE weapon abilities. He has a simple attack pattern, and he’s quite slow even with his jumps so avoiding attacks won’t be a problem. Once you beat him, he’ll fall asleep and you’ll get one Wool as you continue to climb to Olympus.

That’s it for my guide on how to Beat Polyphemus and get Wool in Hades 2. For more Hades 2 guides, check out what is Path of Stars and Moonglow.
