As with most modern-day games, RDR2 has a method to make things go quicker: fast travel. However, it’s not immediately apparent of how to gain access to this feature in RDR2. Depending on how you play, you may miss it for quite some time.

In this guide, we break down the quickest way to unlock fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2.

How To Unlock Fast Travel in Red Dead Redemption 2

To begin the quest that ultimately unlocks fast travel, you want to proceed to the western side of your camp and look for Leopold Strauss. You can find him sitting on a rock, overlooking the valley.

Speaking to him unlocks a long quest line — Money Lending and Other Sins. Luckily, you only have to complete one of the various side quests to access what you need: the ledger (the video above shows you the fastest way to unlock it).

The ledger will give you access to camp upgrades. These additions add things like medicine carts and ammunition crates to your camp, increasing gang morale. The ledger also gives you access to the lodging upgrade, First Things First

This upgrade costs $220. The funds will come out of both your pocket and the camp’s savings. You will then need to purchase the Next in Line upgrade, which costs $325, to get access to fast travel from Arthur’s tent after being unlocked.

That’s no small price. It takes a bit of time to gather this up, and here are some great methods to do this.

How to Get Money Fast in Red Dead Redemption 2

The $545 you need won’t come out of thin air. There’s plenty of methods for you to earn the cash, though.

Bounties

Your first choice should be to check out the bounties available in Valentine. Although you can find bounties listed in a variety of sheriff’s offices in towns around the map, the bounty in Valentine is the closest for this quest.

Bounties offer a quick influx of $50 or more to get you started quick. However, bounties aren’t as plentiful as you might expect, so you’ll have to shift to other money-making methods quickly.

Side Quests

After you’ve exhausted bounties, your next step may be to see what side quests you can tackle located nearby. This money stacks up over time, though you might feel you can earn more faster if you’re willing to risk the law.

Robbing & Stealing

Robbing people always provides a high rate of income, and with that high rate, you have to endure the consequences. Choose your targets wisely, and make sure you have your bandanna on your face to hide your identity. You don’t want the law on your back before you’re ready to jump around the map like a jackrabbit.

You can also steal things from people’s homes or businesses — then resell those items for profit.

Hunting

The last method you can use to acquire funds is by hunting the local wildlife. You can skin these animals and sell them in town to the populace. You can also sell the meat to the local butcher.

If you study this path, you’ll need to return to the city quickly after your kill to make sure the creature does not start rotting. When it starts decomposing, it’ll lose value on the market.

Playing Poker and Dominoes

Depending on your skill and luck, you can also play NPCs in games of chance and skill, such as dominoes and poker. Both of these can net big winnings, but the thought of grinding $220 at one time, getting close, and losing it all is a waking nightmare. Only go this route if you feel lucky.

After you’ve acquired your hard-earned cash, return to camp and find the ledger once again. You can purchase access to the fast travel system, and now getting around the map became so much easier.
