What Does Error Code 109 Mean in Sims 4

Error Code 109 means that you have modded the game way too much and have caused a critical file conflict on your local Sims 4 installation. In other words, your local Sims 4 files are corrupted, or some are outright missing (or being treated as missing, at least). Error Code 109 will not allow you to start up Sims 4, so get ready; we gotta troubleshoot this thing.

How to Solve Error Code 109 in Sims 4

There are generally three methods to solve Error Code 109:

Unmod Sims 4

The first method is to try and manually “unmod” your Sims 4. This means you should take out all of the mods to attempt to resolve this error. However, this does not always work, so most players should just skip to method two:

Uninstall Sims 4 Mods

The second method involves uninstalling your mods and performing a repair. You can do this by locating your Sims 4 installation folder. In the Sims 4 folder, there is a Mods folder where all of your mods are stored (installed). You can take that folder out of the folder and back it up somewhere else with the Cut function in Windows (in case you need those files ever again, I always advocate for backup!). After this, delete your “localthumbcache.package” file in the folder.

Then, open your EA client, find Sims 4 in your Library, right-click on the icon, and hit the “Repair” option in the middle of the drop-down menu. This will signal to the EA Client that you want a “health check-up” of your files. EA Client will then replace any lost or corrupted files. After the repair is done, you can try playing the unmodded version of the game and check if the error is gone. If the error is gone, try adding your mods one by one to figure out which mod caused all of this ruckus.

Uninstall Sims 4 and Install Again

If the issue persists, we need to use the third method. In the third method, you will use the “Uninstall” option located in the drop-down menu I have mentioned above. Uninstall the game completely and conduct a fresh installation.
