However, they don’t always work as intended. What to Do When Minecraft Mods Aren’t Working with Forge?

Setting up mods in Minecraft can be a tricky business, and although most of the time, everything will go according to plan, there are some instances where you can run into problems that seem unsolvable. Luckily, all mod errors are fixable, so let’s jump into what you can do to fix your Forge mods.

Check Your Forge Version

The first thing you want to do when modding Minecraft with Forge is check whether the software version is the same as the mod version. The mod and the modpack (Forge) need to be compatible for everything to work seamlessly. In case they aren’t, update Forge. Then, go back to wherever you’ve found the mod you want to play and download the latest/compatible version.

Check Your Minecraft Version

Not all Minecraft editions support mods. Without going into too much detail, you’ll need to have Minecraft Java edition (available on Windows, Linux, and Mac) if you want to run a lot of mods. If you’re using Minecraft Bedrock Edition, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be lacking mods, but your choices will be reduced. The Java edition is still regarded as the go-to for mod lovers.

Copy and Paste the Correct Mod Files in the Correct Folders

When you download a mod, you need to place it in the correct folder. If you haven’t been changing up your install folders, the folder should be here: (C:) > Users > USERNAME> AppData> Roaming> .minecraft> mods. Make sure you copy and paste the .jar file of your mod into the mod folder of Minecraft. The reason I’m saying this is because some mod sites will automatically download additional files when you pick up your favorite mod, and these files can be of various extensions like .file. Pasting these files in the mods folder won’t enable the mod.

Disable Your Firewall

Yes, this old-school fix can work even with Minecraft mod problems. Since Forge is editing core game files of Minecraft, the Microsoft Firewall can recognize it as an intruding malicious software and block it. You can turn the Firewall back up when you finish playing your game.

Reinstall Everything

Sometimes, when dealing with Forge mods, there are small bugs that get caught up in the mix. The best and quickest way to resolve the issue is to reinstall both the Forge software and the Minecraft game. Also, pay close attention to every update that is coming to both of these, as you’ll need to restart the game for all the new updates to take effect.

Check if There Are Dependency Mods

Often enough, there will be mods that require you to run an additional mod in order to work. Those secondary mods are called dependency mods, and missing the one you need can cause your Forge mods not to load in Minecraft. Double-check this every time you see your mod isn’t loading or working properly.
