Turn Off Steam Overlay
Some games perform better without Steam overlay, which can be easily circumvented once you do the following:
- Start Steam app.
- Go to your Library.
- Right-click on Everspace 2.
- Select the “Properties” option.
- Go to the “General” tab.
- Type in /nolightfx in the “Launch Options” box.
- Close the window to confirm.
Switch to DirectX 11
Most new PCs have DirectX 12 version set by default for all games. But Everspace 2 doesn’t support it just yet, so you need to switch it manually to use DirectX 11. Here’s how you can do it in Steam:
- Start Steam app.
- Right-click on Everspace 2.
- Select “Properties” option.
- Type in -dx11 in the “Launch Options” box.
- Press “Save” to confirm.
Now the game will launch using only DirectX 11, and should not freeze at this point.
Run the Game As Administrator
Follow these steps to always run the game as administrator:
- Go to “SteamsteamappscommonEverspace 2” folder on your PC.
- Right-click on “Everspace2.exe” file.
- Select “Properties” option.
- Go to “Compatibility” tab.
- Check “Run this program as an administrator” box.
- Confirm by pressing “Apply” and OK.
Cap Your Framerate
You may not be aware of this but your framerate could be uncapped by default in your graphics settings, and this may cause undesirable effects like your screen freezing or even running your GPU hot.
Head into your graphics settings and cap your framerate to your monitor’s refresh rate, or turn on V-sync to allow the game to manually cap your framerate to your refresh rate. Note that turning on V-sync may cause some screen tearing. If so, manually cap it and turn V-sync off.
Set the Game’s Priority to High
The last thing you can do is set the game’s priority to “High” in the Task Manager. Here’s what you need to do:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DEL key combination.
- Select “Task Manager” option.
- Go to “Details” tab.
- Right-click on Everspace 2.
- Set “High” in the “Set Priority” field.
