How to Get Cheese in Fields of Mistria

There are several steps you can take to get cheese in Fields of Mistria. Here's a look at your options.

Compared to other main quests in Fields of Mistria, restocking Mistria’s food reserves the second time around is far less taxing. With a donation box set up outside the Sleeping Dragon Inn, you’ll need to donate just x12 Chicken Eggs and x10 Cheeses. If you’re like me, then you probably have more than enough eggs on hand at this point in the story, but preparing enough cheese will call for a bit of extra work. Here’s how to get cheese in Fields of Mistria, including recipe details and how to gather your ingredients.

How to Make Cheese in Fields of Mistria

Making cheese is relatively simple in Fields of Mistria; you just need a solid supply of milk and access to the Mill. The latter should be a given once you’ve reached the Restocking Mistria’s Food Reserves quest, as restoring the Mill is one of your first main projects in Mistria. To get milk, however, the most efficient route is to build a Small Barn on your farm and purchase a cow from Hayden’s shop at Sweetwater Farm.

With your ingredients at the ready, just head over to the Mill in town. Cheese comes with a default recipe, which calls for the following:

  • x2 Milk

To make enough cheese to satisfy the quest requirements and successfully restock the food reserves, you’ll need x20 Milk in total. It’ll take a few in-game hours to prepare this much food, though, so make sure to clear your schedule for the day. Once prepared, you can drop off the cheese and eggs in the donation box and return to Adeline to turn in the supplies.

Getting a Barn

It took me a little longer than I thought it would to get a barn, as I assumed I’d have to make the arrangements with Hayden’s help. On the contrary, you’ll find the Small Barn blueprint for sale at the Carpenter’s shop, northeast of town. The structure comes in red and white colorways and retails at 2,000 Tesserae. Each requires the following crafting materials to build when you place it on your farm:

  • x100 Wood
  • x75 Stone

You can house up to four large farm animals in a Small Barn, so you won’t exactly have a booming business straight away, but you can purchase several cows to stock up on milk fast. With further story progression, you’ll unlock upgrades for both your barn and coop, raising the number of available stalls.

Raising Cows

You’ll find cows sold at Hayden’s shop from the start of your Fields of Mistria playthrough. With your first barn built, you can choose from several types of cows, including black, brown, and spotted. Each goes for 2,000 Tesserae, so the coloration doesn’t really matter all that much beyond your aesthetic preferences and breeding plans. However, gender is important here, as male and female cows provide different materials.

For the sake of preparing cheese for Mistria’s food reserves, you’ll want to make sure your first cow is female. With daily care and the occasional treat, female cows will drop milk every morning. Male cows (or bulls) will instead drop Bull Horns, which could throw a wrench in completing the quest promptly if you don’t have the extra money to spend on another animal.

If you’ve already spent your hard-earned Tesserae on a bull, you’re not entirely out of options. You can sell animals back to Hayden to get a refund, or you could simply purchase milk another way.

Every Way to Get Milk in Fields of Mistria

Purchasing a cow is the simplest way to collect milk in Fields of Mistria. Female cows will drop milk daily, provided you take good care of them. Apart from this, you might occasionally find milk sold for 120 Tesserae at Balor’s Wagon. His wares change on a daily basis, so this isn’t the most reliable means to stock up on goods, but it’s certainly handy in a pinch.

If all else fails, you can try your luck at appeasing the Chicken Statue found near Sweetwater Farm. By offering Shiny Beads you’ve collected from your animals, you’ll receive a reward that’s useful in caring for them. I spent 10 beads to get x3 Milk on my first go, so it’s worth a shot. Feeding berries and other treats to your farm animals is the easiest way to pocket beads daily.
