Rebuilding the Old Camp means you’ll need a lot of resources to get equipment in working condition. Here’s how to get Coal in Lord of the Rings Return to Moria, one of the earliest resources you’ll end up needing.
Both Ways to Get Coal in Lord of the Rings Return to Moria
There are two ways to make Coal. One is easier but less on the efficient side, while the other is more efficient but harder to do.
How to Craft Coal
First, we’ll look at the easier method to get Coal. The Stone Hearth crafts Coal for 25 Wood Scraps to make each piece. I used this extensively when starting the game for the sole purpose of building my Coal stockpile. You need to rebuild the Stone Hearth using:
- 18 Stone
- 15 Coal
- 20 Wood Scraps
Although the hearth requires Coal to build, I came across enough while making my way to the Old Camp to build it when I arrived. As such, make sure you explore and pick up what you can so you have resources to get started right away at camp. Otherwise, you can use the second method to get Coal.
How to Mine Coal
Coal can also be found in Coal Veins, much like Iron Ore is in Iron Veins. Unlike in Minecraft, you don’t need to guess at what each type of rock is. When you’re aiming at surfaces with your pickaxe, the game tells you what you’re looking at. So it might say Stone, Rock, Iron Vein, Coal Vein, and so on. Coal Veins give you more at one time than the hearth does, but they aren’t as easy to find as Wood Scraps, which are all over the area.
And that’s how to get Coal in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. As you get resources and build, you’ll be able to craft more items like metals and weapons. For more help, check our LotRRM guide hub to find topics like how to make Lembas Bread and how to get Orc Keys.
