How to Prepare for the First Dungeon in FFXIV Dawntrail

It’s almost time to head to the New World in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. However, you can already start preparing for the beginning sections, and you might want to if you play multiple jobs. If you plan to level more than one job, here’s how to prepare for the first dungeon in FFXIV Dawntrail.

When you play one job, then the MSQ rewards will be more than enough to get your item level high enough to queue for the first dungeon when you unlock it. But if you play multiple jobs, you have to increase your item level without the help of item coffers from the MSQ. However, you can increase your item level on extra jobs before the expansion releases.

Based on previous expansions, u/realmwrighter made a post on Reddit estimating that the required item level for the first dungeon should be 630. While the MSQ should start giving 645 gear to the job you use for it, you’ll have to get gear elsewhere for additional jobs. Luckily, there are a few ways that make it fairly easy to get your item level up.

Increasing Item Level With Tomestones

First, Tomestones of Poetics can purchase 660 gear in Old Sharlayan and Radz-at-Han after the expansion is released. These are easy to stock up on if you do roulettes, so consider getting the max amount over the next few weeks. Additionally, you can visit Cihanti in Radz-at-Han (X:10.8, Y:10.3) to exchange Allagan Tomestones of Comedy for 650 gear. You earn these by doing roulettes at max level, so you can gather enough to a few pieces of gear before Dawntrail.

Instances That Drop High Item Level Gear

Second, there are a few raids you can grab gear from prior to Dawntrail. Thaleia gives 650 gear, while Circles 9-12 of Pandemonium give 640 gear. As for dungeons, only The Lunar Subterrane gives you high enough gear to prepare for Dawntrail with level 635 items. Between tomestones and these instances, it shouldn’t be a problem to get additional jobs ready to enter dungeons before the expansion is released.

That’s how you prepare for the first dungeon in FFXIV Dawntrail if you plan on running it with multiple jobs.
