You’ll want to holster your weapon in Fallout 76 for many reasons, but the game doesn’t explain how to accomplish this and the benefits of doing so. Here’s how to put your weapon away in Fallout 76, and the reasons for wanting to do so.
How to Holster Your Weapon in Fallout 76
To holster your weapon in Fallout 76, press and hold the Ready/Reload button. If you only press this button, you’ll reload your weapon (or not do anything with melee weapons), so keep holding it until you see your character starting the holster animation.
Here’s how to put you weapon away in Fallout 76 based on your platform:
- PC: R key
- PlayStation: Square button
- Xbox: X button
If you need to pull your weapon back out again, you must press the Ready/Reload button again. Doing so makes it easier than unequipping and reequipping your weapon using your pip-boy.
Why to Holster Your Weapon in Fallout 76
While having a weapon drawn doesn’t affect your interactions with NPCs like in Fallout: New Vegas, it will dictate your base movement and sprint speed when drawn. Further, the weapon class will dictate how much slower your movement speed is when not holstered. For instance, bigger guns like the missile launcher, mini-guns, flamers, and .50 cal will slow down your speed more than a pistol would. This change in speed can make a difference when fighting enemies if you are using a build where you don’t want them within punching distance.
