Cats have been in Minecraft for what seems like forever, but the ability to have up to 10 cats in a single village is pretty new. As of today, Minecraft PS4 players can now get in on the fun and populate their villages with cats, which means it’s time to tame those feisty felines!
Here we’re going to go over how to tame cats in Minecraft as well as how to breed them. Luckily, both are really easy and straightforward.
How to Tame Cats in Minecraft
You’ve surely run into a few cats in your time, wandering the land and looking for goodies.
You will most often find stray cats wandering around villages, these are free for you to tame and add to your own village.
They can be found in the areas around villages as well. Cats are carnivores, so they will follow other critters they can eat.
You can tame a cat by giving it an Uncooked Cod or Uncooked Salmon. These are most easily found via fishing, which you can do once you craft a Fishing Rod.
To craft a Fishing Rod, you need:
- 3 Sticks
- 2 String
You’ll reel in a few different sorts of items and fish, but you’ll come across Uncooked Cod more than Salmon. It’s best to keep the Uncooked Salmon to cook up for yourself.
Once you have the fish, have it in your hand and approach the cat you want to tame. Give it the Uncooked Cod, and you will tame it! From then on, the cat will follow you.
How to Breed Cats
Breeding cats is in Minecraft is just about as easy as taming them!
Just like when you tamed your cats, you can feed two of them Uncooked Cod or Salmon to get them in the mood to breed.
Breeding will produce a kitten, which will be the same coloration as one of the parents.
You can make a kitten age faster by feeding it more fish, a good thing to remember if you’re looking to make a whole herd (pride?) of cats.
