You’ve already encountered upgrade materials like the Azure Damascus Ingots, and you’re wondering how to use them. Indeed, improving gear is unlocked a bit later in the game, but here’s how to upgrade gear in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown once you access it.
How to Upgrade Gear: What to do with Damascus Ingots and Time Crystals
While playing through the Forest area in the early game, you’ll come across Azure Damascus Ingots, Time Crystals, and even Xerxes coins. While the items say that they’re used for upgrades, I found it slightly awkward that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown doesn’t tell you how to actually upgrade gear straight away. Upgrading equipment like weapons and amulets is done at Kaheva’s Forge in the Haven.
How to Unlock and Use Kaheva’s Forge in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
However, Kaheva’s Forge only becomes accessible once you get the Bow. I recommend going to the end of the forest area to the far right of the map. Then, defeat the boar mini-boss. After, you’ll find the Bow. You can then return to the Haven and navigate to the left side of the area. You’ll see a golden glowing glyph on a platform.
Approaching it will open a door to Kaheva’s Forge, where you can interact with her. Her menu will have a Buy section but, more importantly, the Upgrade section. Here, you can spend Ingots to upgrade your Swords and Bow and Time Crystals to upgrade amulets. Her shop will restock with new upgrades as you progress through the game’s story. For example, I found that new upgrades unlocked after you reach Anahita and fight a certain someone, no spoilers.
You can also upgrade your Health Potions by talking to the Magi grandma in the right section of the Haven. Her upgrades are available as soon as you reach the area.
How to Use Xerxes Coins in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Besides Azure Damascus Ingots and Time Crystals, you’ll also purchase and find Xerxes Coins from platforming puzzles around the game world. They’re also used to upgrade amulets at Kaheva’s Forge. I recommend focusing on Weapons and Amulets like Blade Dancer, Shield of Mithra, Will of Rostam, and the Dragon King amulet. Xerxes coins can also be used at the Scrapyard later on to buy useful items like keys and amulets, too.
