So you’re exploring Zskera Vault: Az, and you’ve run into the Malfunctioning Protector. You want to fix him, but you don’t have a Runic Wrench. Our handy guide will tell you where to find it in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, as well as what it’s used for.

How to Unlock Zskera Vault: Az

Before you can even think about using the Runic Wrench, you’ll have to Unlock the Zskera Vaults. To do that, you’ll need to:

    • Complete the questline that unlocks the Forbidden Reach.
    • Once that’s done, you’ll unlock the Daily and World Quests in the area.
    • Complete two more quests to unlock the Vaults: Helping Hand and Claw and Zskera Vault: Az.

Note that these unlocks are not account-wide. If you want to bring your other characters into Zskera Vault: Az, you’ll need to repeat the process again.

Once you have the Vaults unlocked, you can enter them at any time by going to the cave entrance at the northern portion of Morqut Islet and talking to Pathfinder Jeb. Inside, you’ll find a massive, multi-story setup with several locked doors. You can unlock them using Zskera Vault Keys, which you can earn in The Forbidden Reach.

How to Get the Runic Wrench

Whew, okay. With all that done, you can finally start getting the Zskera Vault’s rewards. Behind one of the doors, you’ll find an item called a Celestial Transocular. It looks a lot like an engineer’s headpiece and should be highlighted as a lootable item.

Putting it on gives you the Celestial Transocular buff, which lets you see the outlines of chests and lootable items through walls. If you mouse over any of them, the tooltip will tell you what the item is.

Using the Celestial Transocular’s infrared vision should make finding the Runic Wrench pretty easy. Once you have it, take it back to the Malfunctioning Protector and fix it. The Malfunctioning Protector will open the two locked chests in the room with you. Piece of cake.

And that’s about all you know about the Runic Wrench in World of WarCraft: Dragonflight. For more on Blizzard’s genre-defining MMO, check out our WoW guides hub.
