With Dragon’s Dogma 2 on the way in March fans of the original are wondering whether the second instrument will have multiplayer. Online co-op can make the game drastically more fun and prolong its shelf life. So is Dragon’s Dogma 2 multiplayer?
Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 Have Multiplayer?
Unfortunately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 won’t have online co-op or other multiplayer features.
It seems that Capcom is keeping its pawn system as its only multiplayer feature (the same as in the original version). The studio hasn’t announced any plans to launch the game for online play either, so it seems there are no plans for co-op as far as launch is concerned.
That said, you’ll still have a pseudo-online interaction with other players through their pawns, which you can hire as your companions. Fans of the original will be familiar with this, but if you’re new to the series, they work as follows:
At checkpoints, you can browse through the companions other players have created called pawns and hire them as an NPC for your party. This is on top of your main pawn, which you’ll customize and make available for other players to hire.
Hiring pawns and having your own hired earns players various benefits, and players can even rate each other’s pawns based on both mechanical and cosmetic aspects. That’s all we know so far about multiplayer features on launch.
Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 Have Multiplayer in the Future?
With Dragon’s Dogma Online’s success in Asia, there is a chance that Capcom will release an online co-op mode for DD2. However, this will most likely be far into the future and in the form of some sort of expansion or DLC. Until then, the only way to interact with other players online is through pawns.
That’s it for my article on whether Dragon’s Dogma 2 has multiplayer. For more Dragon’s Dogma 2 content check out the system requirements for the game as well as other massive RPGs coming in 2024.
