Madden 23: How to Relocate Teams

Wondering how to relocate teams in Madden 23? This guide covers everything you need to know, from how to start the process, when you'll choose team names, stadium ratings, and more.

Just as you were able to do in Madden 22, you can likewise relocate teams in Madden 23. While it’s not a necessary component of building a dynasty or even making a team moderately successful, the relocation system is a good deal of fun for those who like to lean into the game’s management simulation elements.

This Madden 23 guide will tell you how to move a team, the criteria that must be met to do so, and when you gain access to various relocation elements like choosing a new team name, jerseys, and stadium. It will also list all the current NFL stadiums with their default ratings, all relocation cities and their attributes, and the possible stadium types you can choose from after you’ve started the process.

Start the Relocation Process

Relocating teams is only available in Franchise Mode, and you must start your league as an Owner. Though it doesn’t matter if you begin as a Former Player, Lifelong Fan, or Financial Mogul in terms of having access to the relocation system, you start your Franchise with $300 million as the Financial Mogul, making it the best role for those that want to learn the ins and outs of the mode or an easier time managing a team.

To recap:

  • Start a new Franchise Mode league.
  • Pick your team.
  • Choose “Change Role” underneath “More Options” to the left of the coach’s headshot.
  • Choose Financial Mogul to the far right.
  • Start your Franchise.

It’s best to begin the relocation process the first week of the preseason because you’ll need one full year to complete the process. When you get to the main Franchise Mode screen (the one with your schedule, goals, gameplan, etc.) during the first week of the preseason, scroll down to “Manage Team.” in the menu on the left side of the screen. Click this option, and then choose “Stadium” at the top of the new menu that appears.

Here, you’ll see the name of your stadium alongside stats like the building’s age, size, and amenities ratings, as well as the overall happiness of the fanbase. Below the stadium portrait in the middle, you’ll see various options for moving, updating, and rebuilding your arena. You must have an overall stadium rating lower than 20 to move a team; otherwise, the option will not be available.

Choose Relocate, and confirm that you want to move your team.

All NFL Stadium Ratings

Below is a list of all 32 current stadiums in the NFL and their respective stadium ratings. Some teams, such as the Las Vegas Raiders or LA Rams, will be almost impossible to move. If you want to put a team in London or Mexico City, for example, start a Franchise with the:

  • Tenessee Titans (10)
  • Buffalo Bills (11)
  • Tampa Bay Buccanneers (14)
  • Green Bay Packers (20)

When Do You Choose a New Team Name and Branding?

Week 6 of the regular season is when you will be able to choose a new team name. Each team name will have a popularity score based on the market; a more popular name will increase fanbase happiness. Your current team branding will be the least popular of the choices.

When Do You Pick New Uniforms?

Week 7 of the regular season is when you will be able to choose your new uniforms. As with team names, each prospective uniform has a popularity score, which can be found in the bottom right of the uniform card. More popular uniforms have a great positive impact on fanbase happiness.

When Do You Break Ground on a New Stadium?

Week 8 of the regular season is when you will choose a new stadium for your team. There are 10 stadium types to choose from, each with different ratings and costs. Note: Unlike the previous options for relocating a team, the option to choose a new stadium is sometimes the second or third choice in the menu on the left side of the main Franchise Mode screen.
