Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak: How to Get Barroth Crown and Scalp

Barroth is one of the first available monsters to hunt in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. He’s a one-star Master Rank target, and a possible key target to progress the story.

He’s also got one of the harder materials to farm no matter where you are in the campaign: Barroth Crown. His High-Rank equivalent has an equally tough-to-farm material: Barroth Scalp.

In this guide, we’ll cover how to get Barroth Crown and Barroth Scalp, as well as good setups to farm it more easily.

Where to Find Barroth Crown and Scalp in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

You get both Barroth Crown and Scalp primarily from breaking Barroth’s head, then carving them. Barroth Crown and Scalp have a 70% chance of being a carve reward when you break Barroth’s scalp. The problem is actually breaking the scalp.

Until you break the scalp, there are very few ways to deal critical damage to it. Worse, light and weapons that need sharpening are liable to bounce off of Barroth’s head, leaving you vulnerable to a counterattack.

There are three things you can do to make breaking Barroth’s scalp. None of them are foolproof, but if you use one or more of them, you increase your chances.

1. Stack the Partbreaker Skill. Partbreaker increases your damage to monster parts by up to 30%. Barroth’s scalp is incredibly tough, and you’ll need to focus its head as much as possible, so this extra part damage is all but required.
2. Use Silkbind and charged attacks. Silkbind attacks don’t really care about the hardness of a monster’s part, and some can deal critical damage as a secondary effect. Weapons like the Hammer, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, and others can charge up and get through the hardness. Charged attacks still don’t deal good damage, but they won’t bounce off the scalp in most cases.
3. Use traps, sleep, and paralysis to make the head easier to hit. Barroth doesn’t like to present his head for damage all that often, so use Pitfall traps and the sleep and paralysis statuses to buy yourself time to wail on his head.

Keep in mind that there is a slight chance of receiving Barroth Crown and Scalp as a Target Reward (6%), a Capture Reward (8%), or from breaking its body (6%). If you hunt enough of them and get lucky a few times, you’ll have Crowns and Scalps to craft with, but don’t count on it every time.

That’s about all there is to getting Barroth Crown and Scalp in Monster Hunter Rise. It’s neither easy nor particularly efficient, but few worthwhile things in the game are.
