The timeline’s been reset, and the next tournament for the fate of the realms is about to commence. Fire God Liu Kang is recruiting the greatest fighters, and so are his enemies. Whichever side you choose, you’ll want to know if your rig can run things smoothly, giving you silky smooth performance and the best chances at victory. Here are the system requirements for Mortal Kombat 1, including the minimum and recommended PC specs.

Both the minimum and recommended MK1 system requirements are surprisingly generous, considering how good the game looked and ran on my PS5 during the July Stress Test. You won’t need top-of-the-line gear, and I’m happy to see my aging rig can keep up with the game.
It’s also worth noting that they’re lower than those for Street Fighter 6 but higher than the last installment in the series, finding a middle ground between the two. So if you’ve run Capcom’s latest, you should be fine. I’d suggest downloading the free SF6 demo on Steam to test things out.
Unlike another big game releasing just ahead of fall, MK1 won’t require you to have a solid-state drive (SSD). Though, upgrading to one will decrease load times and improve performance. I’ve found plenty of great, cheap options to choose from on Amazon and New Egg, and if you want to upgrade, just make sure it’s big enough. 100GB of storage isn’t paltry, but for context, MK11 came in at around ~80GB at base, growing with subsequent DLCs and the game’s Ultimate Edition. SF6 is around 60GB in its current state.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to directly test your rig’s capabilities against the system requirements ahead of launch. The game’s upcoming August beta is only for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Right now, there’s no information on if NetherRealm will hold another PC test. But it’s unlikely, considering we’re coming up on the game’s launch quickly.
Those are the system requirement details for Mortal Kombat 1. The game not called MK12 will launch on September 14 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. In the meantime, here are all of the characters revealed so far, the fatalities that have been confirmed, and the gory brutalities we know about.
