You’ve probably noticed that certain Pals are more effective against some types than others. If you take a Celaray to fight a Foxpark, for instance, its water attacks will diffuse flames easily. For those familiar with Pokemon or other games that implement elemental-based combat, this is nothing new. Currently in Early Access, Palworld offers nine Pal types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a chart breaking down all you need to know:

While Neutral-type Pals don’t have an element they’re strong against combat-wise, that doesn’t mean they don’t have their uses. They’re often great to keep as Base Pals, such as Gorirat who has level two Lumbering and level three Transporting. Or you might want Lunaris in your party for that nice increase in carrying capacity.

How to Teach Pals Other Element Moves

If you want your Pal to have more than one type of Elemental move, you’re in luck. You can teach Pals new skills with Skill Fruit. These fruits appear on glowing trees out in the world, where you can pick them and add them to your inventory. This allows you to teach Pals how to use attacks from any element. Here’s how:

• Interact with your Palbox and place the Pal you want to teach into your party. I’ll be using Tanzee for the purposes of this guide.
• Open your inventory and use the Skill Fruit. A menu will appear, showing the Pals in your party. Select the appropriate Pal to teach them the skill. In this case, I had a Skill Fruit for the Ground attack, Power Shot, and I applied it to Tanzee who’s a Grass-type.
• Swap Skills at any time with your Palbox. If you look at your Pal’s details in the Palbox, you can swap Active Skills by selecting them, which will bring up a menu showing all skills you’ve taught your Pal.

Will More Pal Types Be Added in Palworld?

Pocketpair has confirmed in the Palworld Year 1 Roadmap that new islands, Pals, Bosses, Technologies, and more are planned for the game. While it hasn’t been confirmed if new Elemental types will be included, there’s still a lot to look forward to in the year ahead.
