This is what you need to know about how to tie up guards in Payday 3.

How to Tie Up Guards in Payday 3

To tie up guards, you must first take them as hostages. There are two methods for taking a guard hostage: you either need the Menacing skill or have to do it during the Negotiation Phase before the first assault wave comes.

With this skill, you only need to shout at them within five meters to make them surrender. They should surrender immediately, whether it’s in stealth or in loud.

Menacing is the fifth skill in the Manipulator tree, so it might take a while before you unlock it. We highly recommend it, though, as it works on guards, SWAT, and Heavy SWAT units.

How to Tie Up Guards During Negotiation

All you need to do is aim your gun at a guard during the short Negotiation phase to make them surrender, shout at them to make them lie on the ground, and then finally tie them up. An alternate method is to take them as a human shield before throwing them on the ground and tying them up.

This isn’t always the most reliable way to tie up guards, though. They’ll still shoot at you during the initial Alarm phase, meaning you’ll need to ignore them. They might begin leaving the area right before the Negotiation phase begins, potentially leaving you with a small window to apprehend them. Additionally, they’ll surrender as soon as you look their way. At this point, they’re treated as civilians, meaning that shooting them will incur a penalty cost.

That’s how to tie up guards in Payday 3. If you need other tips to play efficiently, make sure you’ve brushed up on how to earn favors. Everything else you want to know is available at our PD3 guides hub.
