Mega Pinsir is making its Pokemon GO debut. Coming to Mega Raids during the A Valorous Hero event, the basic bug Pokemon will be wreaking havoc in its Mega form until May 24. You’ll also be able to encounter its shiny version. Here’s how to defeat Mega Pinsir and start collecting Mega Pinsir energy in Pokemon GO.
Tips for Beating Mega Pinsir in Pokemon GO
Mega Pinsir Attacks
Mega Pinsir has three possible Fast Attacks:
- Fury Cutter (Bug)
- Bug Bite (Bug)
- Rock Smash (Fighting)
For its Charge Attacks, it can pull from a pool of four possible moves:
- X-Scissor (Bug)
- Superpower (Fighting)
- Close Combat (Fighting)
- Vise Grip (Normal)
Mega Pinsir Weaknesses
Mega Pinsir is a Bug / Flying Pokemon, making it especially weak to Rock moves. Along with Rock, here are its other weaknesses:
- Electric
- Fire
- Ice
- Flying
If you have any Rock Pokemon, or Ground Pokemon with Rock moves, this is the time to let them shine.
Pokemon you shouldn’t take into battle include Grass, Dark, Bug, Fighting, and Psychic due to their weakness to Bug type moves or Mega Pinsir being resistant to their attacks.
Best Mega Pinsir Counters
As mentioned above, Rock Pokemon are going to be the stars of the battle when taking down Mega Pinsir. Ground Pokemon will also work well if they have Rock moves, but they’ll miss out on the STAB bonus. Here are some of the best counters and their moveset to use when facing off against Mega Pinsir:
- Mega Aerodactyl: Rock Throw, Rock Slide
- Mega Aggron: Smack Down, Meteor Beam
- Rhyperior: Smack Down, Rock Wrecker
- Alolan Golem: Rock Thrown, Stone Edge, Wild Charge
- Mega Charizard Y: Fire Spin, Blast Burn
Once defeated, you’ll be able to catch Pinsir. To evolve Pinsir to its Mega form, you’ll need 200 Mega Pinsir Energy.
