Sea of Thieves Dark Desires Commendation Guide

The villains at the heart of Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life have convened to discuss their plan. To earn the Dark Desires commendation you need to find out what they are up to, and we are here to show you how.

The Dark Brethren, the antagonists at the heart of Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life, are hellbent on sewing mayhem on the sea. But who are they, and what are their dark desires?

The Dark Desires Commendation tasks you with finding the answers to those questions. You will need to show strength, wisdom, and, most difficult of all, patience in order to succeed. Here is what you need to do:

How to Earn the Dark Desires Commendation

Launch the third Tall Tale of A Pirate’s Life, titled Dark Brethren, by voting on it near the Castaway. She will send you to the far north, beyond what is charted on your maps, to find a Siren stronghold.

The craggy Siren stronghold in dark, stormy seas.

When you arrive at the fortress, you will proceed through a series of fights with Sea Crawlers. You will also need to overcome a number of Siren statue puzzles

There are some secrets along the way, including hidden journals and mysterious murals, if you are so inclined to solve them.

Keep moving forward. You will pass by the Flying Dutchman, and across a pair of masts on pulleys that function as bridges.

Eventually, you will find yourself sliding to the bottom of a waterslide, hearing the villainous voice of Davy Jones off in the distance. A pop-up with the message “The Court Convenes” will tell you that you are in the right place.

A waterslide hidden in the wall of an underwater cave.

Your impulse may be to charge in, waggling your sword arm for all you’ve got, but that would be a mistake. Instead, you need to take it slow

Creep forward until you have a vantage point, but stay far enough away to remain out of sight. Jones and his cohorts (we won’t spoil who) will begin discussing their plans in details. Jones will allude to another co-conspirator secretly calling the shots from behind the scenes. Sit quietly and listen.

Spying on the Dark Brethren secret meeting from a distance.

It takes a few minutes, but you have to eavesdrop to the end of the conversation — until all the parties involved leave of their own accord. Only then will you have completed your tasks. You will be greeted with the notification that you have achieved the Dark Desires Commendation

Now that you’ve wrapped up the Commendation, you are welcome to quit or finish the mission.  At this point, you are close to the end, and there is a nice stack of gold awaiting you at the conclusion, so we recommend completing the tall tale.

You’ve done it! You have the Dark Desires Commendation, and the plans of the Dark Brethren are becoming clearer. To find out who is really pulling the strings, you will need to complete the last two Tall Tales. There are plenty more hidden Commendations to be found along the way.
