The list of all ways to kill Sims in The Sims 4 with its ever-expanding list of expansions. Many of us have had a Sim die to a fire, or told Sims to swim in a pool before removing the ladder. While fires and drowning are still ways to kill your Sims, they are far from your only options and in this guide we’re going to cover every way to kill Sims in The Sims 4.
All Ways to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 Base Game
- Age
- Cowplant
- Drowning
- Electrocution
- Extreme Emotions
- Fire
- Meteor
- Overexertion
The above list covers the ways that you can kill Sims as a player and the ways that Sims might die either accidentally or from the curse of mortality. But if you don’t want to spend money on expansions – I don’t own all the expansions either, the costs add up – these are the options that you’ll have for tormenting your characters.
Old Age
Once a Sim enters the Elder life stage, it’s a matter of time until they die simply due to their age. While you have limited control over this, you can accelerate this death by forcing your Sim to age up by baking cakes, adding birthday candles, and having that Sim blow them out.
Cowplant
When the Cowplant is hungry, it sticks out its tongue, which looks like a cake. If you tell your Sim to eat the cake, the Cowplant will swallow them. The Sim is spit out after the first time, but being swallowed again while the Sim is still uncomfortable will lead to their death.
Drowning
In previous games, drowning Sims was as easy as having them swim in a pool and removing the ladder. The Sims 4 has made this more difficult. If you want to drown a Sim, you need to get them in a pool, and then build a wall or fence around it. But wait, there’s more. The Sim won’t drown until their Energy bar is empty.
Electrocution
Electrocution is another death that was made more difficult to achieve in The Sims 4. This is caused by Sims fixing broken electronics, but it seems less likely for a Sim to be shocked while repairing. But one shock won’t result in death. You need your Sim to be shocked twice to kill them with the second shock occurring while the Sim is still under the effect of the Seriously Fried moodlet.
Extreme Emotions
If your Sim experiences extreme emotions, it can result in death. However, this method is extremely difficult to trigger without cheats since the Sim moodlets generally don’t get to the point that causes death. The specific emotions that can lead to death are: anger, fear, and embarrassment.
The hard part is that you need your Sim to go past the point of an already extreme moodlet, so the Sim below is Very Embarrassed, but she needs to be even more embarrassed to die from it.
Fire
Fire returns as a cause of death in The Sims 4, and it might be one of the most long-running methods to kill Sims in the series alongside drowning. Sims can die by fire from cooking, lighting fireworks, and from a fireplace that’s lit near objects. I find it’s harder to kill Sims with fire compared to previous games, but if you take away smoke alarms and keep other Sims from putting the fire out, they will burn to death.
Meteor
If you have a Sim look through a telescope, there’s a chance that you’ll receive a message to send your Sim indoors. If you don’t, then the Sim will be hit by a meter and die.
Overexertion
This death only affects Elder Sims. Elderly Sims can’t handle too much activity, so if you have them WooHoo several times in a row, they’ll die from overexertion.
Ways to Kill Sims in Sims 4 Expansions
Some expansions include new ways for Sims to die, so I’ll list them below separated by expansion. However, if you want to kill your Sims in any of the following ways, you’ll have to spend some money first.
Sims 4 City Living: Pufferfish Poisoning
In The Sims 4 City Living, Pufferfish Nigiri is added as a cooking recipe. However, if the dish is low quality, then your Sim can die from poisoning.
Sims 4 Cottage Living: Killer Rabbit and Killer Chicken
If you’re mean to your chickens or rabbits in Cottage Living, then they will turn hostile and kill your Sim as a result.
Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle: Beetle Juice and Death by Flies
Beetle juice, beetle juice, beetle juice! If your Sim drinks beetle juice three times in a row, they’ll die. As in, the Sim goes from living to ghost with no warning.
Dying from flies is perhaps messier than from beetle juice. An overflowing garbage attracts flies, and your Sim getting too close can lead to them being eaten alive.
Sims 4 High School Years: Urban Myth and Stink Capsule
At Mischief Level 8, Sims can choose to Summon Urban Myth. If you have them perform this action twice, the Urban Myth will actually appear and kill the Sim.
Another Mischief death, this is limited to teenage Sims who have a Mischief Level 3 skill and prank the school lockers by putting Stink Capsules in them. Every time this action is performed, your Sim has a chance of dying from Stink Capsuling themselves. It must happen twice for the Sim to die.
Sims 4 Jungle Adventure: Poison
Putting aside the semantics about whether this death should be called poison or venom, Jungle Adventure is a pack that includes a new location that Sims can travel to, which is a jungle as you may have guessed. Exploring the jungle can result in your Sim being poisoned either by traps or creatures. Some Sims can survive the poison, but others need an antidote or they’ll die.
Sims 4 My First Pet Stuff: Rabid Rodent Fever
This is essentially your Sim dying from rabies. A Sim bitten by a rodent that lives in a dirty cage can end up with Rabid Rodent Fever. Not only will your Sim die if not treated, but they can spread Rabid Rodent Fever to other Sims.
Sims 4 Realm of Magic: Overcharged
This death is limited to Spellcasters. Casting magic can lead to a Spellcaster becoming overcharged. If you make the Sim use magic while overcharged, your Sim will explode.
Sims 4 Seasons: Overheat, Freeze, Lightning, and Death Flower Deaths
The Sims 4 Seasons adds deaths from weather conditions and one death from flower arranging.
Staying outside too long in warm clothing when it’s hot out or in too little clothing when it’s cold out can result in your Sim dying.
Having your Sim outside during a storm can lead to them being struck by lightning, but this has to happen twice in a row for the Sim to die. One lightning strike will simply leave the Sim dazed.
Death Flowers can be used to scent a flower arrangement for Sims who have the Flower Arranging Skill. Gifting a bouquet with Death Flower will kill an elderly Sim, but not a Sim in any other life stage.
Sims 4 Snowy Escape: Vending Machines and Rock Climbing
Snowy Escape adds vending machines, and if your Sim tries to get an item unstuck from a vending machine, there’s a chance the machine will fall and crush them to death.
Another hazard that was added is Rock Climbing, as your Sim’s chance of falling to their death increases the higher they climb.
Sims 4 Spa Day: Steam
Telling your Sim to stay in the sauna for too long can end up with them dying from the steam.
Sims 4 StrangerVille: The Mother
The Mother is a plant creature that will eat your Sim if you send them to fight her without proper preparations.
Sims 4 Tiny Living Stuff: Murphy Bed
The Murphy Bed is an item added in Tiny Living that folds up to conserve living space. However, this means that your Sim can be crushed to death from it falling down.
Sims 4 Vampires: Sun
Vampires that don’t have full resistance to the sun will die from being in the sun once their Vampiric Energy bar is empty.
With or without expansions, there are plenty of ways to kill your Sims in The Sims 4, but if you want to take a break from tormenting them, check out more guides here.
