Stardew Valley: How to Catch Flounder

Here's how to catch Flounder in Stardew Valley.

The Flounder is a fish in Stardew Valley that is described as one that “lives on the bottom, so both eyes are on top of its head.” However, that description doesn’t do much to tell its location. Instead, you might find yourself casting a line into every body of water, hoping to land a bite from this fish. Here’s how to catch Flounder in Stardew Valley.

Luckily, Flounder is pretty easy to catch in Stardew Valley, due to its big minigame window and appearance in two seasons. It can be caught between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. during Spring and Summer at the beach or on the Beach Farm if you have that as an option.

If you haven’t been able to catch a Flounder during its available seasons, you can also catch it on any part of the beach on Ginger Island, as well as the famous Pirate Cove. Weather doesn’t affect the appearance of the fish in these locations. It can be caught when raining, sunny, or cloudy.

When waiting for a bite, it will be obvious when you’ve caught a Flounder on your hook due to its “sinker” behavior, which is less strenuous than when catching other species.

Tips for Hooking Flounder

Much of the time, trying to catch a specific fish can be a tedious process. Having bait or wild bait (obtained from Linus’ 4-heart event) can decrease the time for a fish to bite, making it easier to catch the Flounder in its window. You can also equip the Spinner tackle (Fishing Level 6), which slightly increases the bite-rate when fishing.

What’s Flounder Used For?

This fish can be used in a number of recipes. However, it’s a key ingredient in the Seafoam Pudding cooking recipe. You’ll want to make this recipe if you wish to unlock the “Gourmet Chef” achievement, as well as gaining a +4 fishing buff, which gives you a massive advantage when fishing.

Hidden Perks

If you are less interested in becoming a renowned chef in Stardew Valley, there are other uses for it. While the Flounder is not an exceptional gift for the majority of the townsfolk, there’s a young man who has a particular liking for Flounder. If you see Sebastian as a love interest, or you just want to be best friends, gifting him a Flounder will lead to great results.
