If you’re a fan of the giant M Class ships you see floating in space in Starfield, you’ll be excited to know that you can create your own. Utilizing the oversized modules takes a few steps, but the results are well worth it if you’re looking to build the most formidable craft. Here’s how to get M Class ship modules in Starfield.
How to Get M Class Ship Modules in Starfield
Unfortunately, M Class modules are currently code blocked, meaning they can only be accessed via mods and the command console. Xbox players will have to wait until the Creation Kit becomes available for console, which is expected in 2024.

How to Install Mods
- Download the mod of your choice.
- Add the txt. file into your game root folder, typically SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Starfield
- If you’re having trouble finding it, enter the location in the Windows search bar.
- Start Starfield.
- Open the Command Console window (~ button).
- Type ‘bat mclassunlock’ and press Enter.
- Close the Command Console window (~ button).
Other mod specific actions will be listed on their information page. Using mods will turn off any achievements you may have earned, along with potentially causing instability in the game. Creating an copy of your save file before adding any mods is strongly suggested.
If you find yourself struggling with adding the parts to your ship, no worries. There’s a large variety of save files with various modded ships containing M Class modules on NexusMods, as well. Even more can be seen on the r/Starfieldmods subreddit.
How to Pilot M Class Modded Ships
One of the largest concerns about adding M class modules to your ship is the fact that you can’t actually fly it. There are very specific steps you must take to circumvent this.
- Make the target ship your Home ship before starting to edit it.
- Add the M Class Modules.
- Ignore any alert about having too low of a pilot level that may come up.
If you’ve already started including the M class parts on a ship that isn’t your Home ship, you need to remove them. Then you can designate it as your main vessel and edit away. Otherwise it’ll never get off the ground.
Future of M Class Ship Modules
Many are speculating on the future of M Class ships and the associated parts. Due to the code being included in the game and simply locked, there are a few possibilities when it comes to their inclusion.
- Only for NPC vessels
- Cut content
- Future DLC content
Players are opting for the future DLC option, but the others are valid as well. Only time will tell if M Class becomes an accessible feature through normal gameplay in upcoming updates.
