Sometimes, all it takes to figure out a problem is a keen eye and checking out clues. Our guide discusses how to solve the Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle in Super Mario RPG.
How to Solve the Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle in Super Mario RPG
To solve the Super Mario RPG Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle, you need to interact with the portraits of individuals based on their age, from the oldest to the youngest. That might sound simple enough, but the clue and the puzzle itself are quite far apart.
Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle and Clue Locations
The clue to the Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle is actually in the very first room upon entering the dungeon. If you go up the steps, you’ll see the pictures of the members of the Booster clan, arranged from the eldest (Booster the First) to the youngest (Booster the Sixth).
As for the puzzle, you’ll stumble upon it as you make your way to the top of the dungeon. After encountering the first save point, you’ll see a locked room with a large keyhole, as well as the paintings arranged on the wall.
In my case, I had already taken several screenshots when I first arrived in the dungeon. As such, I was able to compare the caricatures themselves and how they were arranged in both sections.
Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle Solution
The Super Mario RPG Booster Tower Portrait Puzzle has the following solution: 4-5-3-6-2-1. That means you need to interact with the pictures in a specific order:
- First: The one at the far-right.
- Second: The picture that’s second from the right.
- Third: The picture that’s third from the left.
- Fourth: The leftmost portrait.
- Fifth: The second picture from the left.
- Sixth: The picture that’s third from the right.
I was able to solve this on my first try by comparing the screenshots that I had. Also, if you do this correctly, you’ll receive the Elder Key.
Reward: Chain Chomp
Once you have the Elder Key, interact with the nearby door with the large keyhole. Inside, you’ll find a Chain Chomp enemy. However, when you jump toward it, Bowser will tell you that the creature is a bit shy. He’ll then wield it around, granting you the Chain Chomp weapon. You can equip it on Bowser to give him +10 attack, as he has no weapon by default.
