Ascend is one of the earliest abilities you can get in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it’s also one of the most important ones. However, it can be easy to miss when running around and exploring the tutorial area. Though you’ll eventually acquire it during the story, it’s helpful to have for opening some chests in the Sky Islands. Our guide will show you the exact location of the Shrine that contains the Ascend ability in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as provide you with tips on how to use it properly.
Where to Find the Ascend Ability Location in Tears of the Kingdom
The Ascend ability can be obtained as soon as you enter the Gutanbac Shrine, which is located on the eastern side of the Great Sky Island at coordinates 0709, -1381, 1584 and circled in green above. The red circle indicates the location of the Cold Resistant gear you can acquire after getting the Ascend ability.
It’s worth noting that the snow mountain area will freeze Link. To keep Link warm on the ascent, I suggest cooking some food with Spicy Pepper in it or with multiple Peppers. The more you add to a dish, the longer your cold resistance will last.
Once you’ve been able to maintain some warmth, you can finally enter the Gutanbac Shrine. Rauru will give you the Ascend ability when you exit the portal, and you’ll need to complete the Gutanbac Shrine puzzles before being able to use it in the Sky Islands and Hyrule.
How to Use the Ascend Ability
During the Gutanbac Shrine challenge, you’ll be able to learn the basic ways of using the Ascend ability. But there’s so much more to it, and here are some essential tips that might come in handy:
- Ascend is a very powerful ability that allows you to move through the thickest surfaces, including caves, deep wells, cliffsides, and more.
- If you’re stuck in an enclosed area with a strong enemy, use it to escape through the surface above, and come back when you’re ready.
- If you can’t escape, then use Ascend to take advantage over your enemy by attacking from above if there’s a platform nearby.
- Ascending is much faster than climbing, but make sure that you can Ascend by looking for the right type of surface above.
- If the marker on the surface above is red, this means that you can’t use the Ascend ability.
