Tears of the Kingdom: How to Unlock the Paraglider in TotK

The Paraglider is probably the most important piece of equipment in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It’s indestructible, essential for moving around the map, and is really just a good time. As fun as it might be, you might miss your chance to collect it for dozens or even hundreds of hours if you aren’t mindful of it. In this guide, we’ll cover where to go to get the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom so you don’t miss a moment in the sky.

Where to Find the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom

To get the Paraglider, you need to complete part of the story campaign. Unlike Breath of the Wild, you’ll leave the tutorial of Tears of the Kingdom without the Paraglider. Another difference is that, unless you take a particular path, you won’t get it at all. As soon as you arrive in Hyrule Kingdom, head north toward the well-lit tower surrounded by fortifications.

There will be some monsters patrolling nearby, but you can ignore them. When you arrive in the town called Lookout Landing, head to the northern portion and meet with Purah on the upper platform.

The young-again Shiekah researcher will send you further north to meet with Hoz on the outskirts of Hyrule Castle. Make your way up the road to the first guard post, then climb the building to reach Hoz staring into the abyss. After a cutscene, he’ll send you back to Purah at Lookout Landing, and after a night’s rest, she’ll have the Skyview Tower — this game’s version of Shiekah Towers — repaired. All that remains is to send Link into the sky with his brand-new Paraglider.

In short, if you don’t follow the main story path for at least a little while, you will never get the Paraglider and, therefore, never have full access to the Sky Islands — or easy access to many of the game’s other areas.

Once you have the Paraglider, you can do whatever you want (and could before, really), but I’d highly recommend doing the story mission for at least a few hours so you can quickly unlock major hub areas, NPCs, and questlines. Don’t be like me and get lost in the Depths below Hyrule for three hours when there are guides to write.
