In this beginner’s guide to The Escapists 2, I’m going to go over some helpful info and tips for those just getting started in this game.

The Escapists 2 Basics

First, let me go over a few basics. The first thing you need to do is complete the tutorial. You will want to pay attention during this as they give you good info that will help you throughout the rest of the game.

There are 6 total stats to keep track of, 3 of which you can improve.

escapists 2 stats

  • Health: Your total life. When it reaches 0, you get taken to the infirmary.
  • Stamina: How much energy you have. You need this to perform actions like exercise, studying, or digging.
  • Heat:This is how suspicious the guards of you. If this gets high, they will start to follow you. If it gets too high, they will beat you until you are taken to the infirmary or solitary confinement.

Below are the stats you can improve. They each go to a max of 100.

  • Strength: Affects how much damage you do.
  • Fitness: Affects how much Stamina you lose during activities.
  • Intellect: Affects what you can craft.

I suggest maxing out Fitness whenever you can, then working on Strength. The maximum amount of Intellect you need to craft everything is 70, though you are fine with 40-60 for the first prison.

Check in for Each Routine, But You’re Free After That

If you don’t check in at an activity, guards will get suspicious. Luckily, all you need to do is show up, then you can leave right away. Once you see that green check mark show up, you can do whatever you want and the guards won’t question it.

This applies to the first prison, but the later ones might not be so generous.

Use Group Activities to Get and Complete Prisoners Quests

Group activity times like Roll Call and Meals are the best time to acquire and finish Prisoner’s Quests, because everyone will be in the same spot. There are many quests that require you to take an item to another prisoner. Since everyone is right there, it is quick and easy cash.

Train Stats and Survey the Prison During Free Time

You will want your stats high enough to accomplish whatever escape you have planned, and you need to scope out the best places and times for an escape.

Free Time is the longest period of time you have to do stuff, so use it wisely.

Check Each Prisoner’s Desk Often

Prisoners keep all sorts of crafting materials and other useful items in their desks. Taking these will save a lot of time and money. Just don’t stay too long if a guard sees you, or they will get suspicious.

How to Get a Job

If you are like me, you might have missed this little part during the rundown on the prison. During Job time, they show an arrow that goes towards a room. If you go in the room, a worker will sit with you, make a complaint, and you earn money.

This only happens if you don’t have a job. If you go to the sign outside the room, you can apply for a job. Some inmates might already have jobs, but I was able to apply for Garbage Disposal when I figured out what was going on.

You can make someone lose their job by making them miss work 3 days in a row. The same goes for you, so be sure to meet your work quota each day!

Have a Cover Up Available If You Dig, Break Walls, or Get in Air Vents

Whenever you damage any property in prison, it will be found and the prison alert will go up. They will also fix whatever you did, making it a waste of time.

You can fix this by hiding your work. Craft a poster if you are breaking through walls. If you are digging a hole in your cell, you can pick up your table and place it over the hole to hide it. If you are going through the air vents in the ceiling, you will want to craft a fake vent cover.

Those are all the tips I have for getting started in The Escapists 2. Let me know if you have any questions or tips of your own for those just getting started! And stay tuned for more Escapists 2 guides for other tips and tricks to help you make your escape.
