Most of World of Warcraft mounts, air or ground based, serve for only one purpose: MOVING AROUND FASTER! In the majority of cases, the only difference is their looks, price and rarity.
However, there are couple mounts in Azeroth that offer you something a little more special, than just increased movement speed. In this list we will look at such mounts and tell you how you can get your hands on them!
#4 Flying passenger mount
While there is a hand full of passenger mounts in WoW, only two of these are flying mounts. Flying passenger mounts can be useful for many reasons:
- Helping out a friend who is under level 60.
- Flying large distances with a friend, who hasn’t bought Artisan and/or Master riding skill (Therefore is much slower than you)
- Flying your friend around Draenor, who is yet to get the Draenor exploration achievement
These mounts are:
Sandstone Drake
Sandstone Drake can be acquired by studying a Vial of Sands. You can get Vial of Sands by either buying one on the AH (the price fluctuates anywhere from 35k to 50k gold) or by making one yourself.
To make the Vial of Sands, you will need to get the Vial of Sands Recipe, which can be found in Canopic Jars, that are gathered from the Archeology skill. Once you have found the Recipe, you can use your Alchemy skill (525 required) to make: Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial, Sands of Time (8), Truegold (12), Flask of the Winds (8),Flask of Titanic Strength (8), Deepstone Oil (8) into one Vial of Sands.
X-53 Touring Rocket
The X-53 Touring Rocket can be acquired only from the “Recruit-a-Friend” system. If you invite a friend, and he proceeds to purchase at least one months of subscription, you are given a choice between 8 different rewards, one of those rewards is the X-53 Touring Rocket!
#3 The only level 1 mount
Chauffeured Chopper
The Chauffeured Chopper is the only mount that can be summoned at level 1. This mount is unlocked when you have collected 35 or more different heirlooms. This means, that you can get this mount for 17’000 gold, if you buy 35 heirlooms for 500 gold.
60% movement speed mount at level 1, grants a huge advantage when leveling 1-20. However, once you have reached level 40, this mount becomes useless, as it is capped to 60% even with master riding learned!
#2 Water walking mounts
Waterstrider
Waterstriders are mounts that grant Water Walking when summoned, however just like other water walking effects, the effect is disabled on damage.
While there are some classes that can walk on water with certain spells, most classes are not capable of walking on water. When flying is not an option, crossing large watered areas can be a real pain unless you have one of these!!
There are 2 different Waterstriders:
Reins of the Crimson Water Strider
Reins of the Azure Water Strider
The Azure Water Strider is sold by Nat Pagle for 5000 gold. To buy the mount, you need to be exalted with The Anglers.
The Crimson Water Strider is sold by Nat Pagle for 100 of Nat’s Lucky Coins, which can be collected by fishing.
#1 Vendor mounts
Vendor mounts are by far the most useful mounts in WoW! If you happen to be farming items or just leveling up with Quickloot on, Vendor mounts will become your best friends, since they can be used to quickly empty your inventory.
Alternately, when you have wiped for the N’th time, and your gear is broken, you don’t need to get out of the raid and start looking for the nearest repair spot, you can just summon your mount outside, or even inside the Instance(depending on the Raid/Dungeon) and repair your gear!
This is because when you summon a vendor mount, it will have two NPC’s. One of which will be a Vendor/Repair guy, that will sell some useful skilling stuff, Tome of clear mind, repair your armour.
Currently there are two vendor mounts in WoW. The Grand Expedition Yak and the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth.
Two vendor mounts:
Grand Expedition Yak
The Grand Expedition Yak will be summoned with two NPC’s. A Transmogrifier, that will let you transmog your gear, and a Vendor/Repair guy, that can be used to repair your gear and sell your items.
This mount can be bought from Uncle Bigpicket for 120’000 gold.
Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth
The Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth will be summoned with two NPC’s. A food vendor, that will sell you food up to level 80, and a Vendor/Repair guy, that can be used to repair your gear and sell your items.
This mount can be bought from Mei Francis for 20’000 gold.
While the Yak has more useful vendor and a Transmogrifier, the Mammoth is a whopping 100’000 gold cheaper! So the Travelers Tundra Mammoth will be more accessible to the general player base.
That’s the lot, when talking about special WoW mounts. I hope you learned something new and be sure to comment, if we forgot something, and let us know if you would like to see more content on World of Warcraft!
