Minecraft is one of the most moddable games out there, and it can be a little overwhelming trying to navigate the literal thousands of mods, tweaks, and modpacks available to you. Since so much of Minecraft is played online, it can be even harder to figure out which single players mods are up-to-date and worth using. While we know that everyone has their own opinion about what the ‘best’ mods are, we think these are the top five Minecraft single player mods around. Enjoy!
Terrafirmacraft
If you routinely tear through your Minecraft worlds, reach The End and take down the Ender Dragon without breaking a sweat, and you’re looking for a little more out of your builds, then Terrafirmacraft is the mod for you. Terrafirmacraft completely overhauls the survival aspect of Minecraft, adding several new tiers of tool creation, more intense hunger/thirst, and complex farming mechanics. This mod is not for the faint of heart — it’s challenging, complicated, and very possible to die, but if you’re ready to up your game, this is the number one mod to do it with.
Tinker’s Construct
Tinker’s Construct is another mod that completely changes the way the game is played — among other tweaks, additions, and fixes, Tinker’s Construct adds a whole toolbox of items that you can use to build, fight, and otherwise manipulate the world around you. It adds a huge level of complexity to Minecraft and is a great mod for people who like to tinker with Redstone, build, and automate their creations. There’s not a lot of documentation on the game, and you’re encouraged to experiment with different combinations and find things out for yourself — perfect for the creative builder, inventor, and, well, tinkerer.
Thaumcraft
If you ever wanted to deal with a stray creeper by throwing a fireball at it instead of shooting it with your bow, Thaumcraft is the mod for you. It adds a huge amount of content that all hinges around creating magical items, wielding magic, and discovering the mystical all around you. You can create wands and learn spells, discover ancient ruins, fight creepy cults, brew new potions, and more. This is an incredibly deep and complex mod that adds a whole new dimension to the game, integrating itself with just about everything that’s already in vanilla — plants and animals, enemies, temples, etc. A great mod for wizard-loving Minecraft afficionados everywhere.
Buildcraft
Buildcraft is exactly what it sounds like, and it’s extremely good at what it does. If you’re the kind of player who loves to build and wishes there were more options for construction, mining, and automation, then this is an amazing mod that will suit you well. Buildcraft lets you build things that are impossible (or extremely difficult) in vanilla Minecraft, and includes features like pipes, engines, and blueprints that streamline and vastly improve the building process, allowing for cooler, bigger, more intricate builds.
Harvestcraft
If your Minecraft passion is more agrarian, then Harvestcraft is one of the best mods around — it adds over 275 new crops and recipes to the game, and includes interactions like picking fruit from trees, plants that repeatedly bear fruit, new cooking items, and more. Combine this with an animal mod or just use it by yourself and you’ve got a game that’s as deep as any farming simulator or farm management game around. It also plays nice with other mods, making this a great addition to your game if you’re just looking to spice it up a little.
That wraps up our list. Are there any that we missed? What are your favorite single-player mods? Let us know in the comments below!
